We get new members, but some never come back.

 I have talked to several people that have said they’ve come to this forum and they’ve posted their required welcome thread but they never hear back from anyone.

The common thing seems to be they don’t know to click on the drop-down menu below the box where they are typing, that says “attachments and other options”.  you have to open that and click  “notify me of replies”.

if you don’t they never hear from the forum that has all the people welcoming them and they leave because they think no one cares..

Is there anyway to make that a default that is selected for people with less than 10 post?

Or can it be renamed “click here to get notifications to this post?”

Of the people I have talked to run in age from their mid 30’s to people in their 70’s.

If you were to look at the analytics of new posters to see how many do not post more than 10 times you may be surprised at how many potentially active members we are losing.

If they click on "Show new replies to your posts" at the top of the page it will pull up their welcome thread.
Maybe they don't notice it, or need to be informed of it.

Pardon me if it sounds a little too straightforward, but.....anyone who joins and writes their introduction post, and is welcomed by other staff, is perfectly welcome (and as far as I am concerned- SHOULD) to join in on conversation and participate in the threads that they are interested in. There is no need in waiting for other forum members to do or say things to prove that they "care". This is a community of air gun enthusiasts, and there is nothing stopping any of us from joining in.

Just because you’re an air gun enthusiast doesn’t mean you’re a computer or Internet forum enthusiast.

But if you don’t know to click the drop-down that says attachments and then select notify me of replies to this post
you will never knew anybody welcomed you. 

sometimes people of all ages have problems navigating the online world.

In a members profile is a tab called Notification. I believe, by default, these options are turned on. So ANY post they make automatically subscribes them to that thread. They can, and many do, turn this option off. Hence they will not receive notification of any new posts in a thread they start or post in.

Or others may be just plain rude and don't bother to say "thank you" after they have gained their answers.

I'm with LIZZY on this one ... beyond the introductory post, if a new member is actually wanting to learn and get involved in the conversation of Air Guns it won't be there only post !!
IMO when we see single or sub 10 posts those members  IMO ONLY signed up to satisfy a specific issue / problem or after specific information only membership allows. That done there Gone gone gone.

They never were potential contributing members and likely many remain being lurkers at best just reading as many members still do.   There choice to make in not being chatty

I know that I've learned a wealth of information since I've been on this forum and can't help but being involved.  Being retired especially because now I can play
