Elevation turret can't get any higher on the fire 202s

Hi guys,

i have read that this is a typical iron sight problem......therefore a korean bigbore problem?
Which ring should be compensated/shimmed front or rear?
I think the front one ?

Or can this be solved inside the cover of the fire which holds the scoperail.

Or should i buy a adjustable mount? And a boresighter?

If the gun is shooting low (pellets hitting below point of aim) then you have to put shims under the REAR of the scope....

Have you optically centered your scope to make sure you have the movement range? I find that most scopes need to be centered or they can run out of travel.

Might be stating the obvious, but re-center the scope again before re-mounting.  Cranking the inner tube too far can/will make the scope lose center when shot.  It can also lead to damage.  You need that spring pressure to retain the inner tube in it's adjusted position, shot after shot.  If the turret moves too freely, or if the "clicks" are sounding softer, you are getting too far off course.

If you shim the front of the scope. You are going to make the shot go LOWER.  
If you want to make the shot go HIGHER, you raise the REAR of the scope.
I must admit that I am not quite sure if Woodland's intent is to get the gun to shoot higher, or lower, so I guess there's a bit of confusion possible.  I guess most here are assuming adjustments based on where the shot hits.

If your POI can't get High enought to hit your POA than you have to shim the bottom of the rear mount

Well my feeling was right that it could be different then one would think at first......
So the question here was at the right place. thx for the expertise.

At this moment i can't get the fire shoot any higher. It shoots to low and the scope can't be adjusted any more.

The problem might come from the TP that is fraction to high causing the cover with the scoperail to be to high at the front.  What else?
The rear cut into to deep to fit over the tube?

So i'll try to shim to scope at the rear and after i know the thickness needed i 'll try to compensate that on the tube under the cover with the scoperail.

I found that taking off the rear open sight of the 202 will give you alot more clearence for the front of your scope

The shim thickness required is simple math.... You need to know how much higher the bullet need to hit on the target, the range to the target, and the distance between the scope rings....

Shim thickness = (distance between rings in inches / distance to target in inches) x distance bullet is too low on target....

Example: distance to target 20 yards = 60 feet = 720 inches.... scope rings 4" apart.... bullet is hitting 2" too low at 20 yards....

Shim thickness = (4 / 720) x 2 = 0.011"

If the vertical POI is more than two inches (50mm) below the aim point, you will need to
bring the POI up to meet the Point-of-Aim by raising the rear of the scope relative to the
front by packing the inside of the rear scope mount with a non-compressible, flexible
material. Most people use old film negative.

You can cut shims from aluminum beer/soda cans.  They are between 0.005" - 0.008" They're mostly in the lower end though for most beer/soda cans.
You can also cut aluminum roofing flashing.  Aluminum Flashing is commonly 0.010"

Handy idea to reduce the possibility of kinking the scope tube.... Cut a triangular notch in the shim with the wide end facing forward (towards the muzzle).... shaped like an "M" but without the notches in the outside legs.... That will allow the shim to contact the scope tube over a longer distance instead of just bearing on the front edge only....

The above description is assuming you are shimming up the rear of the scope, of course.... I've never borthered with this for thin shims and never had a problem.... but it sounds like a very good idea if you are worried....

Hi Guys,

thx  you all,for all the great tips.

Yesterday i put this scope on a AAS510 .25  after using two sheets of old photo negative.
Shot at 15m and in the lowest alleviation of the turret i was still 1 inch above target.

The simpleness of the solution (in & out) with the photo negative gives me good hope when the scope is put on the Fire again.... probably around zero.

The fire is a bit to loud, so i'll have to wait for a visit to the range

Ok, now I'm confused. I thought you said you were hitting too low and couldn't adjust the scope any more to raise the point of impact. Have you optically centered the scope as a couple of us suggested? If you haven't, there's a really easy way to do it using a mirror. You need to start from zero with an optically centered scope to determine if your scope is bad, or the rifle is bad.

i am confused that you are confused  ..

To get the  poi up i should shim the rear mount; i did that with two pieces of film.

To test the amount of rising of the POI with two pieces of film;
I checked this on AAS510 .25 because i was used on that one also sometime.
Compaired to the old situation on the AAS510 .25..the POI has gone up very much.
So this will be the case with the fire also but more in the centre between up&down (zero?)
I was hitting to low with the fire (but not with the same scope on the AAS510); the poi will rise using the N2 scope on the fire.

On the AAS510 .25 it still has a little to high poi NOW on the lowest turret point (not before)
I used the AAS510 .25 because of the noise of the Fire in the house.
But the effect of two pieces of film is the same.
I wondered what it would do. One can calculate and mis-calculate
Shooting with the AAS510 in this case will cause less damage then a unpredictable fire 202 with 105gr bullet.

So the problem was shooting to low with the N2 scope on the Fire...
thx to you and and  two pieces of film in the rear mount the POI went UP.

This saved me a borsighter and a adjustable mount......
which probably would have been sold on the next occasion.
