Questions on installing Vortek's R-9 PG 2 Tune Kit

I am in the process of installing vortek ps2 kit in my R9 and need some guidance. The kit I received did not have any instructions so I followed the steps outlined in this thread
http://www.airgunadvice.net/viewtopic.php?t=13786.
There is one thing that has me a little confused and I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me.
1. Am I supposed to leave the piston liner out during reassembly?
2. If the piston liner stays out, then what protects the cocking shoe from ridding on the spring? Is there supposed to be another liner that goes in the piston?

The liner is really there to help dampen twang. You should have no problems without it.

You have to remove the stock piston liner when you install the vortek kit on the R9. If you do not remove the liner then you will not be able to fully compress the spring without damaging the plastic guide. I did not realize until I started to reassemble everything; luckily I caught my mistake before I damaged the guide.
After removing the metal liner reassembled everything and I slowly compressed the spring. The plastic guide slid into the piston and supported the cocking shoe. I just did a few shots and the rifle has a different sound but absolutely no twang. It got dark on me so I will have to with till tomorrow before I can run a few shots across the chronograph.

Looks like you got it. The vortek kits are very nice. If you replaced the seal also then i would shoot about 3-400 shots before running in across the chrony. Mine have dropped a few fps but all are still very strong and sooo smooth to shoot. Vortek pg2 kits are worth every penny imho.
