My only question is you called it a springer. Unless we are talking about different guns mine is a SSP.
I'll chime in here with my thoughts on the P17. My trusty 40+ year old Webley Premier Mk II apparently died a couple of months ago, so began shopping for a replacement. The P17 seemed to check most of the boxes of what I was seeking- adjustable sights, spring or gas piston, decent power, reasonable size, ambidextrous grip. At just under $30 it seemed like a pretty low risk purchase. If I really liked the P17 my plan was to get the Weihrauch P3 version. So I was putting my toe in the water with the Chinese P17 before dropping 8X more for the German P3. So far I have shot the P17 in 5 sessions, firing about 150 pellets. My thoughts- 1) accuracy is quite good. I have shot offhand 3 shot groups of about 1 1/2" at 50 feet. This is about the limit of my ability offhand 2) fiber optic sights- Wonderful! I can really see the these sights, even with my old eyes. 3) Power- have not chronographed it yet but it seems pretty zippy. 4) Safety location. It is good for me, being left handed. I would think it is on the wrong side for a righty, but maybe it is OK. 5) cocking effort. This is the only real negative. I watched enough videos before buying it to appreciate that it is mandatory to keep your hand clear of the frame and upper part when closing the action. Still, the effort to close the action is significant. It is noticeably more effort to cock than my Webley. 6) pellet loading. Access to the chamber is not as open as on other designs. It can be a little fussy to insert the pellet but it is not all that difficult. As I write this there is hope that my Webley can be repaired by airgunwerks. So I probably will not buy the Weihrauch P3 version of the P17. Plus, if the cocking effort on the German-made P3 is about the same as the P17, I am not sure I am up for buying another pistol which is somewhat difficult to cock.
