Dressing Up an HW30

Dennis,

I looked at the photos of your Hw 55 Tyrolean  a lot over the weekend.  This morning I went to the shed and found a 3"X 9" X 40" walnut plank that had been drying for 10 plus years.  I ran it through my portable planer and laid out a Tyrolean stock.  I have it rough sawn and the barrel channel is routed in. The trigger slot and clearance for the cocking linkage iare cut also.  One side needs resawn to remove the excess wood leaving the Tyrolean cheek plate.

Hi Folks,

I worked on the Hw30- R7 Tyrolean stock today.  The pad is on and the trigger guard is inlayed.  There is a lot of walnut to remove.  Someday I hope that I can sy, " It fits me!"

Put your sight on it.  Your head has to line up exactly for the Tyrollean to be effective.  Once in the cup, you have no wiggle room with your cheek weld.

I'm at the slow progress stage now,  I'm committed to the stock Hw30 front peep sight.  Next week, I have a new rear peep for it. The line of sight is determined by the sights and shooting distance.  There will be a whole bunch of fit, file and fire to do.  For now, I have the stock sights on it, the windage won't change much and the elevation is very close.  I'll be S.O.L. if I lose a bunch of weight. It is currently weight in at 8.2 pounds.  The low oversized forearm feels really nice, that radius just lays in the palm of my hand.  The recoil pad may get changed to a curved adjustable Morgan style.

The down side is, it will not fit my "left eye dominate" wife.  Granny and I may end up with a pair of Tyroleans, "Hers and His."

Wow!  That is EXACTLY what I would like to do with my HW30 -- a Boyd's laminate in nutmeg (or pepper).  Or even better, put one of those on a stainless HW30 (but then I would still have an extra plain Jane lying around).

Any idea on who could be hired to do the inletting?  Would that involve shipping my rifle back and forth to the inletter?

You can silence it.

The HW30 is relatively quiet but quieter would be even better.

Where does one get that moderator?  How much quieter does it make the HW30?

Mr. Mele is an incredible craftsman.

His stocks are extremely precise and very close-tolerance.

Same gent who makes Joe Chacon's ABRA BR stocks but the design is exclusive to Mr. Joe

His finish is like that of a European sports car, I tell you, sir!

Frankly, he is not even expensive.

If there are "hordes" of you who will order from him his creations would come out much cheaper.

I think ordering the whole shebang from him rather than let him inlet a Boyd stock would actually come out cheaper.

I do not have an HW30 but I will buy one if Mr. Mele creates a stock for it---I also would like a thumbhole design.

I like the super sculpted curvy rear of the stock with the brutal angle of the forestock. It works good. I want one.

That Tyro stock looks so comfy I might fall asleep while shooting it

I installed Bisley adjustable butt pads on our HW30 and R7.  The little stocks are too straight, requiring me to scrunch my neck down and raise my shooting shoulder up to see through the scope.  An adjustable pad solves that issue for me.  Warning:  takes a lot of time, work and patience to make them fit really nice.  I also installed B-square bubble levels.  The R7/HW30 has a loopy trajectory.  Keeping the gun level and not canted to one side or the other is important when aiming high at distant targets.
