Mat seem like a silly question but are we casting soft or hard lead for the airguns? I cast more for muzzleloaders than airguns, but the Fire 201 has me itchin' to try some home brew pellets.

From my experience Korean AR like softer lead . 5-8 bhn seems to work . My US made AR are more forgiving and will except up to 18 bhn . And many of them perfer the 8-12 bhn . 1 R nose pistol bullets I have not had good results with . Short nose Keith ,or TC seem to do well as well as BNWC or 1/2-3/4 R nose out to 50-60 yards . At 35 almost any will group . At there fps they like the weight to be toward the base of the bullet .JME.Marvin

Thanks. I would image a 105 gr semi wad cutter might do fine. I'll pass on a hollowbase 38 I found.

Hi,
i just chronied my 105gr swc .358 at 244 m/s getting 145 ftp used pellet lead from the backstop 250bar
(should be sized to .356; the sizer is still in the pinline)
Nxt batch will come from soft roof lead, which seems to work as well.
I did not lube...keeps the fire clean.
My TP is 6mm all the way.
I wonder how "Gargoyle" gets 245 ftp according his site.
I only get there increasing the velocity to 310 m/s
sizing will increase the velocity?
Is there a more simpler trick besides getting a heavier hammerspring or using a lath for a different valve to increase the ftp ?
Heavier Bullet?
sorry for the sidestep...but still the fire with a 105gr casted swc.
regards

You are never going to get the energy out of a 201 or 202 that you get out of a Gargoyle . I have a Gargoyle by Dan that now makes the XP line of rifles and this is what it does with a standard valve . I have a low psi valve and a high psi valve as well .
And from my experince with my 201 it liked a .357 and 5-12 bhn lead . Marvin

Sorry i got you confused;
"The power tunes on the Fire series guns are near 909 light hunter specs. Customers report up to 245 foot pounds out of these. The gun gets fully disassembled, inspected, seals replaced, extensive porting and polished, extensive valve mods, and then assembled, checked for leaks, function tested, then returned back to you normally within a two week turn around time. I do not resort to heavy hammer springs as most tuners do to get the power up, doing so results in excessive strain on the already questionable cocking handle."
