Give these a try! So... Insomnia has struck again. Here in the wee hours of the morning I’ve given up on trying to sleep, and instead started working on my weekly food prep. A staple of which includes hard boiled eggs. If you don’t have a Copper Chef hard boiled egg maker; you need one! It makes turning out hard boiled eggs as easy as making toast. Any how with a half dozen left over from last week, I was discarding them in the usual fashion. That being feeding them to my dobie who crunches them down shell, and all...
Then I had an idea. I wanna shoot this thing. Just because... So I lit up my range, drew a face on the Hard Boiled egg, pulled out
my D48B, and let her rip! Wow! I got way more amusement than I should have out of that! I don’t know that hard boiled eggs serve as an accurate analog to squirrel heads; but that’s what my mind wandered to. Later on today I plan to set up quite a few more at various distances, just to see the damage. Let’s see what kind of results we get at a 100 yards...
Anyhow with eggs being dirt cheap it’s worth a try, and delicious fun for when you might tire of punching paper, or ringing steel.

Additional thought on the matter has me considering whether or not Hard Boiled eggs could serve as a useful medium for testing the destructive properties of various pellets. I guess some comparative analysis is in order...

About 10 years ago we were shooting benchrest at the Sacramento Club and not yet gotten into field target.
After the match, it became shoot what you brought.
At whatever range you want.
One of the farmer types had brought some ripe duck and goose eggs with him.
So, in addition to the expended PB cartridges and shot shells laying around, we put those eggs out at 100 yards.
Too much fun.
I had some photos and a video but I didn’t save them

While hard boiled eggs aren’t eggsactly ballistic gel... They do quite handily show a “wound channel”. I think this could prove to be useful...

Sounds like fun! I remember one long range powder burner shoot that had an egg shoot at the end. One shot at some ridiculous distance for a little cash. If no one won the pot carried over to the next match. Always a lot of fun.

Only times I have shot at eggs is at a breakfast shoot. Raw eggs are set up down range and you get one shot to hit an egg. Hit and you are in the shoot to win bacon,ham,sausage,eggs etc.  Miss the egg and you have two choices. Sit and watch or eat the raw egg to stay in the match.

I have experimented with raw eggs, spoiled fruit, spam and two day old baked potatoes as ballistic medium.  All with very satisfying results.  I now experiment on ballistic squirrel medium.  It is readily available where I live,  gives realistic results and unlike spoiled food it can be consumed after the shooting session.

I use steel discs at 25 yards that pop up when hit.   I never have to go downrange to reposition anything so all I have to do is shoot!

Yesterday’s egg shoot was really fun, interesting, and rather surprising. Especially the results Fromm 100 yards. The D350 is still delivering a respectable amount of energy, and damage on target.

I can't profess to shooting many eggs in the past; the only type I have shot are eggs from poisonous snakes- which I had absolutely ZERO problems doing after putting a Crow Mag through the momma snake's poisonous head.

Shortly after beginning my egg testing, a racing element was added. As my dogs special treats also happen to be hard boiled eggs. They seemed to have had similar thoughts to yours... Lol! “My dogs ate my proof! You gotta believe me!” Lol...

A hundred yard egg shot with a D350 is pretty impressive. I really need to get my range turned around so I can shoot 100m. Right now I’m setup at 70m max. A 70m egg shot with any from my thus far arsenal would thrill me!

Eggs are probably my favorite food, so I feel that just shooting them for fun is just sacrilege!
Save your eggs for the kitchen, and shoot paintballs instead. Plus, you'll only need about 20-30yd to make it challenging. Paintballs are also a heck of a lot cheaper than eggs, and they taste awful, no matter how you cook them!

Actually, I keep forgetting about the paintballs. I know a lot of you fellas shoot them, but every chance I get to visit Wally World, I forget to look and buy some. I need to put that on my wife’s shopping list for Friday, and a bag of cheap golf tee’s HaHa! 🤣

I like to tape Thunder Snaps fuseless firecrackers to my silhouettes. Challenging and rewarding,  I buy a case of them on July 5th.

I bought one of those and for me the bullet was too tiny to be depended upon beyond 100 yards.

However, eggs are soft.
