Old WARBIRDS still shoot.
Suggestion:
Prior to tearing the gun down I soak the gun down good with BP Blaster and let it sit over night.
Esp the front pins and on them I mark them to go back in the hole they came out of. They can be stuck. I take a small brass hammer and tap on them after soaking down a while and then hit them again with PB. ONCE out clean the holes good prior to assemble. I do polish the pins prior to assemble and the rear pin.
Just my way but much more has to be done and all depends on what you find on the tear down. 💀
Best of luck.
The BP should help on rusted bluing but not always.

Thanks
The last time I was at the shop when I was having a look at it and decided to purchase it, some kid was talking about getting it and putting a 'mega spring' in it and tricking it out for rabbits. I thought I could just let it go and forget about it. I didn't really NEED another air rifle but after reading more about it and seeing that all the parts are still available, I couldn't stop thinking about it being destroyed so I decided to purchase it. I went back and talked to the owner and we reached a price we both felt was fair. I spent about $70 on parts so far. I think it should be fun getting looking and working like it did back in the 70's. Maybe even beat my son with his TX200 that I purchased for him almost 20 years ago.
I took the stock off this evening and the covered over parts of the rifle is surprisingly clean for the age. I took fine steel wool to and cleaned of the rust spots and gave it a light coat of BP Blaster and wrapped it in an oily rag and will let it sit for a few days. It is amazing how well built the trigger assembly and 'undercarriage' is, a lot of man hours and machining went into making these guns and it appears that they were built to last. Hard to believe I have come full circle and back to springers again. This is the third air rifle I have purchased in as many months.
With everything off the stock, it is defiantly a dark wood and appears to be walnut. Not sure if it needs to be fully striped down to bare to make it look good again. I did use super fine steel wool to remove a little of the coating and it appears to be a shellac finish.

Hi
I am still refinishing my FWB 300 and I am in about $350 now. I was very lucky that the stock was walnut and wood was good but the finish was destroyed. I purchased new seals and bumper as well as a one piece spring from Jim M.
The stock is almost complete and the spring, bumper and breach seal have been installed. I had to grind, lap and polish the spring ends a little but it was a pleasure to work on the gun. I am getting 600fps with 9gr pellets.
Should I replace the piston ring with the new one?
I removed most of the tiny rust spots and re-blued the cocking leaver. I will be finishing the bluing when I get the time.
It is so easy to cock and shoot and now I need more .177" pellets.

I would not touch the Piston ring as it hardly ever wears out ... how is the accuracy with quality wadcutters?
Looks like You are doing GREAT!

Great, thanks. I am still going to strip it down and refinish bluing it and will keep the ring as is.
Funny thing, I put the front and rear sights on did not touch the adjustments and put 4 old pellets from a mixed can, I think it was one hollow point and a few domed, through a hole the size of a nickle in a coke can at about 20 yards.
I am looking forward to trying it with a proper rest when the light is better.

Outstanding!
Get some RWS meisterklugens or R10's and they will put a grin on your face that nobody can slap off!

Funny, I just had a look in the tin and there are 5 different types of pellets and weights from 7gr to 9gr and I am not sure what I shot.
I think I have a springer that will beat my sons TX200!
