Making a more stable barrel band fo Cheif.

Bob and Loud any ideas from making a more stable barrel band for the chief. Maybe twice as big length wise with twice the screws. My barrel moves to much when hunting situations changing poi. I I being to critical, great hunting gun but need to do something.     Mike

not really a Bob and LLoyd type question , they generally answer hard math and engineering questions. But , the first thing youd likely wanna do is sleeve the barrel to make it stiffer.. then check your breech connection , because it should not be able to move that easily.. then , look at a custom fatt barrel band , even something 3d printed but longer and more contaact area would help a great deal.. the chief barrel i believe is 14mm, so some 18 by 14 or 16mm by 14mm carbon fiber tube would help , even the cheap stuff on amazon. after sleeving , youd need a custom barrel band anyway

Like all QB derived guns, the Chief suffers from a very poor barrel to receiver fit, because the barrel is not very deep into the receiver, and there are O-rings to seal it up, which allow it to wobble around.... I fitted two setscrews, one on each side of the receiver, at the back of the loading bay....



These tighten up against the sides of the barrel, right at the back of it.... This gives three solid points of contact, and does wonders to stabilize the barrel relative to the receiver.... Since any scope is mounted on the receiver, if they can move independently, your POI wanders all over the place....

I didn't make any change to the barrel band on my Chief, and it was a very accurate gun....

I was gonna do something like that but it still doesn’t solve the barrel band issue’

But when making this cheap .25 cal barrel
I drilled and tapped the holes for 10/32 set screws and added two on the reservoir tube @ 3’oclock & 9’oclock’

Now I can take the barrel off to clean or swap barrels and put it back together and
The band doesn’t move’ so I don’t have to worry about aligning the center shot up again every freakin time’

If the holes don’t strip out I won’t bother making a thicker one’ so far it works outstanding’
