Laser Rangefinders

I am considering the purchase of a laser rangefinder for hunting with my airguns.  Since I will be using springers of all powers along with stock and tuned PCP's.  Anyone have a suggestion for me to research?  What are some of the primary features you must have?  Is it just a matter of known brands offering a better product?  I figure a rangefinder built for bow hunters should fit my needs, but. . . .   Looking through Optic Planet, ebay and Amazon has left me a bit dazzled.

Buy the cheapest one.  I have an $80 Redfield and a $150 Leupod.  They both work fine.
The only special feature that $$$ rangefinders have is an angle indicator.  If you shoot up in trees alot, might be helpful.
Otherwise, not.

I bought this one from Ali Express.  Inexpensive at $51 and change,  works well, has angle reading and can even track the speed of a moving vehicle.      I have painted the blue to black.

been looking at them to so i'm looking forward to the replies . i've got a $100 budget and want 6x water proof and slope calculating . what do you folks think of the halo brand or other entry level brands ?

I have carried an in-expensive 4X Simmons (from Walmart) for many years. Basic, but works to ranges I will never shoot to with an airgun. Paid $42.00 in store and it still works fine.

Got a Bushnell Scout DX 1000 ARC 6 x 21.
Used you can find them with a little bit of pacience under $100.

🔸Three modes (brush, target, and scan, according to the terrain you're in).

🔸Accuracy 0.5 yards (when under 100y), display 0.1 yards — and at long ranges 1 yard of misranging can make the POI be an inch high or low.

I have the Halo 450 6x mag and incline, think I paid about $80. last year there was a bargain gate deal on a golf type range finder for IIR $35. does not have the incline option but works as well as the 450, and IIR only has 4x mag. and takes a more common battery. Also I found the lens on the Halo not s clear as the bargain brand

Given a choice between 4x and 6x at springer ranges, I'd go for 4x. Two reasons:

1) a 6x20 rangefinder is pretty dim when the light gets low--you'll notice when the light isn't bright and sunny. 4x20 probably won't be noticeable.

2) the 4x will have a wider field of view making it just a little easier to find your targets. My 6x is a workout if the target isn't easy to find already.

Be aware that some models have a minimum range. My Nikon Prostaff (bought used on eBay--save money!) has 1/2 yard resolution, but only down to 11 yards. Any closer and it won't tell you anything!

The Halo is what i have, and use. it works just fine for me...

I picked this up about a year or two ago.  I really like it and it's small.  It has a number of features and works well.  I would think by now you could get a good deal on it.  It's a keeper.

I guess it cost more than I remembered.  I found the receipt where I paid $203 for it 12-18-18 on eBay.  I figured the price had dropped by now though still.  It does work well and is fast and continues to update when moving it around.  I really don't need to measure how tall a tree or building is, but can with this thing if I get bored.  I like the lighted crosshair.  Always easy to see.

No problem.   I have a UPS that I bought about 6 or 7 years ago for a little less than $300 and now is over $400 and rising.   The unit is exactly the same as it was when I bought it back then and it could have been improved even then!

Oh well... I don't really *need* a range finder as where I shoot, I already know the distances for every shot by reference points like stumps, trees, etc.

When all you do is pest in your own back yard, you do get to know the distances like the back of your hand.  (smile)

Oh, and 20 to 55 yards is not all that hard to come up with hold overs that work consistently.

I happened to see a Halo last year at local walmart that I guess wasn't selling so they did one of those price drops. Had to labeled at 49.99, when I got it out of the case and ready to check out it ran up at 29.99. Don't recall the model but does everything I need. I get it out later if I think about it.

Of course, I am sure that you pointed out the error and paid the $49.99... right?   LOL!

Probably the price was lowered but the shelf tag was not updated to reflect the new lower price.

well .... it doesn't have the slope/tilt fearure i think i'd like and it's 4x rather than 6x .... but amazon has the simmons venture standard for $50 and the reviews are mostly good . i'm in no rush to get something but i thought i'd mention it to see what you folks think .

Looks ok to me. Has good reviews for the most part. If you get it and have a problem Amazon is real good on returns.
