Budget 30fpe hunting pistol

I got this a good while back.  A pp800 in 25 caliber.  9" barrel.  Cost less than a Gamo, and has the easiest detachable stock I've used.

I originally tuned it to 25 fpe using jsb 25gr Pellets.  It came shooting 12fpe, as it was a Canadian pistol (sub 500fps)

Well, I tried to fine tune it a bit further.  The gun has a 50cc air tube, and no regulator.  So, you can imagine the fps spread is all over the place.  No efforts I've put forth have yielded an increase in consistent velocity.  Which is fine because the gun is very accurate, regardless.  Somehow.  But I did cut my hammer spring too short.

Took 3 months to get a new hammer spring to my door, mainly because it took 2.5 to figure out the spring it came with was from a pr700w 😅🤦‍♂️.

Anyhow, I touched it up, and the full length spring is giving me max power at the very top of the fill.  I may try and make some adjustments. 

But its shooting 26.54gr jsbs at 712 fps for the first shot and 705 for the second.

At the range I use it, I havn't ever needed more than one shot.  But I can get 7 thru the same hole at 25 yards with no discernible shift in trajectory.  But only with the jsbs.

The gun also has a 3x magnifier that has a latch and is functional, and accurate for use with the stock as well.

It is a single shot.  And no factory magazine exists for it.

First of all, it came with the pr700w hammer spring which is a good sight stiffer.  The ports were 3.5mm throughout the gun.  I opened them as far as I could.  5.1mm and 5.4mm by the valve stem.  I also ported the valve body inlet, and bellmouthed it.  Removed 1.25 coils from the valve spring. 

The main power limiting factor aside from the tiny 3.5mm ports was the actual valve travel.  I reduced the length of the rear of the valve body to add valve stem protrusion on the hammer side.  As well as cut the poppet back a bit for even more travel.   The hammer had next to no valve stem to act on.  Added a couple small washers inside the hammer, and stuck the hammer spring guide inside of it as well instead of behind it.

I don't think so.  I can't imagine the plenum is much more than 10 CCs.  So, if you took the regulator out, and converted it to 25 caliber, it should be doable.  Maybe something like 24fpe in 22 with no regulator.  Assuming it's not a pain to pull the reg. out?

Having a small plenum really limits your power output.  I tried a 15cc plenum and regulator on the 25 cal pp800, and I lost 9 fpe.  Even with the regulator turned way up.

How long is the barrel on that? Beast mode!

I don't have the modding chops, but wonder if there is a longer barrel that might squeeze a few more FPS out of this unit.?

Both this gun and my Bandit have thread adapters from bagnall and kirkwood (m10x1. 0 to 1/2"x20) so I can use any of my moderators.  Originally I was using a FX Continuum mod with modified internals.  But I currently use a huma 40mm 30 caliber mod.  It's got a bit of heft which stabilizes the gun when shooting in pistol format.

I did have to hog out the threads from the back of the adapters because the muzzle is only half threaded.  I also had to take a flat file to the plastic at the base of the muzzle that the mod bumps up against.  The factory mod on my bandit was so crooked it had clipping issues.  Flattening that surface it butts up against fixed that.  The pp800 had the same problem.  Easy fix.

As far as barrels, the cp2 in 22 and 177 has longer barrels that fit.  But I'm not aware a 25 caliber exists.

**FYI  for everyone else, this gun with no regulator shoots extremely well with the jsb 25gr Pellets only.  I'm sure if velocity was consistent, most Pellets of not all would shoot well.  But for some reason, with extreme spreads with 150 maybe even 175fps difference, there is no shift in windage with the 25grs.  Just a small difference in drop the slower they get.   I currently have the gun shooting a tad high on the first 2 shots, and the 3rd sits right above the sight.  Next 4 are dead on.  Benjamin, H&n, and hades do not group well

it just needs to be non regged, then do the valve work.. thats pretty much it.. I will say dallas did a very good job since hes likely approaching a theoretical max for this short of a barrel

They are essentially the same gun. 

My bandit in 177 was shooting 16fpe....  So, I'd wager the 22 ought to be good for 24 or so with some work.  My .177 had no work done to it and shot 16fpe.  FYI

The post above does contain the 25 caliber pp800.  Which is what my gun is.  It came that way.  I have seen the parts to convert available on another Canadian website, but cannot recall where.

That's very impressive. I saw the .25 on Archery and Airguns and seriously thought about making a purchase.

And yeah, I agree, they are pretty much the same gun. When the Bandit and Chaser first came out I bought both the Bandit and then the Chaser carbine kit so I could interchange the Chaser body with the Bandit. Now I have the option of three barrels and a pistol or carbine all on the PCP platform that is also magazine fed in .22. And now I have some spare parts to boot.

The other two mods I have done was from the suggestion of youllshootyoureyeout. Re-tapping the m4 threads for the bolt to 8-32 and adding a rear cocking bolt.

It's my hiking/brush hip gun. Now only if I can figure out how to remove that shark fin of a front sight I would be happy (it likes to snag in the holster).

I've seen the rear cocker before, but for the life of me cant recall the purpose....  hmmmm  the old cocking bolts liked to break, didnt they?  I think I have new ones on both of mine.  My pp800 has a very heavy spring out of a pr700w in it.  Plus shims.  So, I guarantee it is harder to cock than any other cp2/bandit/pp800 out there.  I need to dial it back a bit, haha.  I can hear the hammer striking the valve multiple times.  And the fact that it makes the most power at 210bar tells me I have too much hammer for any pressure below that.

I cut the valve spring, but I'm going to revert it back to stock to alleviate that a bit.

The sight post, I would take a cutting wheel to.  then carefully file/sand it down.  hit it with a scouring wheel and then rub a little polishing compound to smooth it back out a lil

I have no doubt your .25 is harder to cock than the PCP and especially the Co2 lol. My first bolt held on for a year, but when I removed it to have it re-tapped I put on the other one and on the first mag it snapped of, so I bet they did take precautions in later models and the .25. I was told, and have found it beneficial, to use the rear cocker for any pellets that have a harder time loading. Also, before I replaced the side bolt as I was skinning my index finger on the edge of the red dot, so it helped there too.

Sounds like once you get that spring replaced it will be in a sweet spot for the FPE you're producing, or at least on the right path. Maybe you can post an update after you get the new spring installed? I would be curious to hear about the results. These little inexpensive pistols don't get a whole lot of love on here lol

That is probably the best option for the sight post. I had tentatively attempted removing it with a belt wrench, but it's really on there and I didn't want to mare up the barrel.
