Infor on Daisy model 25 pump gun build date ???

I have a friend at work who found his 60 year old Daisy Model 25 pump gun a few days ago. I say sixty because he is 69 and thinks he remembers getting it for Christmas when he was like 8 or 9 years old.

They were cleaning out the attic and stumbled across it.

It is in very good shape. An 8 out of 10 easy. Only thing really wrong is most of the markings are worn off but no rust to speak of.

And it still pumps and seems to work. It has a plastic stock, combination flip up peep/notch rear sight, looks to be painted not blued and has gold silk screened images of  a hunting dog and ducks or geese flying, sorta like an old engraved fancy shotgun. It has the "reg number"  on the upper receiver stamped M386261 , wonder what year it was made?

Anybody got any ideas how much it might be worth? Or how much I should offer him for it?

I don't really need it, but I just love old airguns. And I already own a 1966 Crosman MKII that works and shoots flawlessly.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't know to say whether the silkscreening was "fancy" or "plain" but assuming it has the flip sight, I'd guess it's fancy. That puts the year somewhere around 1957. Given the REG. NO. having an "M" prefix, the earliest it could be is about 1958 when Daisy moved to Rogers, AR. The Plymouth guns had either no REG. NO. or if it did have a number it began with either "K" or "L". So 1958 would be close.

ETA- In my notes, I found the following (from Joe Murfin, curator of the Daisy Museum):

"M386173 to M388608 were all stamped on December 3, 1959."

The gun would have been assembled shortly thereafter.

Forgot to add, these guns go for around $85-$120 on ebay in the condition you describe. Take that as a very loose estimate.

This one doesn't look quite like yours. The stock on this one is plain without the raised cheek piece. Also the rear sight is further back than yours. Also the pump handle looks like what they refer to as "tootsie roll" which isn't like yours either.
It's still pretty cool just cause of the condition and the age.

I like the stock and foregrip on Frank's gun. They didn't make them like that for very long, just a few years during the '70s. It'll have a LOT NO., it can be read for the date. A= Jan, etc. skipping "I". The first number will be the last number of the year in the '70s: 3= 1973, etc.

Yes sir, it looks just like that. Flip sight, pump handle and all. Would have been nice if the screen printing on the receiver hadn't been rubbed off.
Wonder what they mean on the box where it says "take down model" ?

Sorry, I missed where the silk screening had been mostly rubbed away. That will decrease the value. How much is anyone's guess. In the end, it's basically what Frank said- it's worth what someone will pay.

Well Christmas came a little late for me today. Lol
My friend just gave me the Daisy 25
He said he didn't need it anymore and didn't have any boys or grandkids so he wanted me to have it.
