I still like Gold Rush,

I enjoy it but the Beetz clan cussing so much gets old. Sounds like I'm hearing morse code with all the bleeping. Wish they'd mix in the incessant bleeps with some truck horns, dropped wrenches and falling trash cans at least as that would be way more entertaining. If you took a shot for every bleep you'd be sauced before the first commercial.

I watched a show about humpback whales sometimes saving people from sharks by pushing them to boats and saving various other creatures from killer whales too. Sometimes they float in place near boats sticking their heads up out of the ocean to watch onlookers standing on the boats. Was interesting and had beautiful underwater footage too. The whales have lice and barnacles so maybe they breach in the air landing on the surface hard to get rid of those critters on them.

I checked out the first two episodes of "Dracula" on Netflix, it's the most intelligent vampire movie or series I've seen in a long time.  I usually don't like dream sequences, it usually means the writers have written themselves into a corner and don't know how to get out.  The dream sequences in Dracula actually carry the story forward in a believable way.

we watched the Dracula series.  in whole we liked it, but i had a hard time getting along with the dialog, it was almost comical at times.


we just finished the Netflix series The Stranger. i recommend it.




last night i attend a seminar on African American Music in Cinema.  it was sad how the industry tried to shut them down and keep them out, but also uplifting to see how they persevered and released the 1st all black cast casted movie in 1929.  it was interesting to hear the the song Shaft made more money than the movie did!


there was also a nice presentation on Lena Horne, very inspiring woman.

Just got back from seeing call of the wild and overall I liked it.

My one complaint would be the 20th century axes featured in this movie taking place in the 1870's-1880's or so.
What can I say, I noticed It and can't forget.
That 3lb Michigan single bit feller Harrison ford splits wood with just looked out of place.
At least the axes we're good vintage pieces and aged modern Home Depot junk.

"Trapped" (Iceland show) two seasons, Started watching "Yellowstone" season 2 and the first episode of the new "War of the Worlds". Check out "Cosmos" real thinking man's SCI-FI. "Fortitude" and "Tin Star" ok series. Watched first two "Hunters" with Pachino-- jury's still out.

Wife's hooked on "Poldark". It is a pretty good show.

One thing that I always did like finding when I metal detect in the woods are the axe heads, many of them the old broke off handle is long ago rotted out and sometimes I've found them as deep as a couple feet down.   I gave my brother a really nice double bladed axe head after I restored it with a few days of electrolysis, told him you can buy your own handle for it though, he pretty much uses that axe all the time, I'll never forget watching him chopping an old stump out from an old maple he had cut down in his yard with it one day.
I use this old broad axe quite a bit myself, it's an old hand forged one that's probably from the mid to late 1800's.

Watched Swamp People last night. I call Troy "Mr Hanes" because his whiteys are always showing a lot whenever he bends over. He needs tighter pants or overalls.

Netflix has a movie that a friend recommenced Full Count. Worth the watch, some parts had me crying.

This last week I binged Season one of "HUNTERS" on Prime. Thought provoking, interesting, little historic (the premise) rather interesting twists.

Bottom line, the whole idea is scary (not horror scary) of what the US government did after WWII and the logic behind it.

watched Ragnarok on Netflix.  Altered Carbon season 2 is next.  But my favorite show, period, is The Expanse.  Glad that Amazon is running with it.  I watch only in the evening, usually when I'm on the rower.

While I had Amazon Prime (temporarily, trial period) I watched "Temple Grandin".

Since then I have watched several videos of the real Temple Grandin on YouTube.

Fascinating person and I learned a lot about myself.   I think I am undiagnosed autistic to some degree.

It would explain a lot of what I went through as a child... (sigh)

If you get the chance, the movie is well worth watching!

Gotta love "The Rifleman". Old Lucas always solves the towns problems with his 30-30 an one quick hip shot.

John, The Winchester 92 and the Spanish '92 copy the "El Tigre" used on the Rifleman and most other westerns have never been chambered for the 30-30 cartridge; it is too long to function in the '92 action.

The "el Tigre" is easy to identify, it has a front sight behind the front barrel band, the Winchester rifles have a front sight in front of the front barrel band.

Almost all of lever actions used in Westerns are either 38-40, or 44-40 caliber so that "5 in one" blanks may be used.
