Retay Sport Underlever Part Two

The Retay Sport not only a good looking underlever but fun to shoot
It is to bad that Retay does not already export them to the US.
We don't have a big selection of these type underlevers here in the US.
As an underlever springer it has a very nice gentle cocking cycle and shooting cycle. It is very accurate as well. I did not get a chance to set up targets for the review but I did allot of testing and shooting with different pellets. It seems to really like the JSB Exacts and CHP's.
Was getting tight clover leafs at 25 yards and 1" groups at 40 yards. Weather has not been cooperating here because of heat and then rain in afternoons.
I did run two strings of pellets across the chrony and you will see the results. For a new and fresh tune the numbers were quite suprising.
Two things that really got my attention were first the barrel. It was very dirty and took even a nylon brush and goo gone to clean it out good.
Second was putting it back together after I put new JM GRT spring in. Since the end cap is threaded and it made re assembly very difficult. You definitely need a spring compressor and good alignment.
Overall the Retay Sport is a well made and fine shooting gun. The metal work and stock are fantastic as well. The new style theoben trigger Retay has come up with is tunable. It is a one stage trigger but feels like a two stage to pull it.
I ended up mounting a Hawk 4-12X44 Air Max. It fits the gun well as you can see from pictures.

Nice numbers there. looks to be very consistent. I really like the look of their guns too. Its something unique and different about them, but in a good way.

THANKS GENE...
Do you think the threaded endcap will stand up over time, considering the abuse they'll take?.
I don't know how deeply their threaded, but that came to mind.
Also, do you think there would be even better speeds from a VRT/ZRT spring? Perhaps too much spring?
Again, Thanks, you're lucky to get to play with something new!!!

Wow, impressive results. Should be an accurate shooter with those numbers.
Good looking gun too.
Thanks for the excellent review Gene. But now I must go remove the drool before it ruins my keyboard.
Happy Shooting!!!!

Hi Guys,
I found a photo of the Retay underlever in the short Carbine version, by chance in a Camo pattern stock.
I sent this picture to Gene.
Maybe he could post it here, because I'm not able to.
I'm curious about what you think of it.

Have never tried a under lever but this looks like as good a time as ever. Sent the deposit. Would also love to get the break barrel but have two plus two break barrel pistols. Just too much money for old retired guy.

I own the .177 caliber one for two days.Which is named Retay Troy 100x here in Turkey. I also wonder the muzzle velocity of the 177 version with ~7.8gr like magnum or hollow point pellets.
I would be very pleased if I read a report like that from you ,Gene.
Have a nice day, looking forward to shoot with her

The numbers look great for this rifle. I am having a hard time finding more information on this rifle. Reviews seem hit and miss on quality control. I would have liked to have seen number before the tune though. Are these thoroughly a no-go in the states now? I know air scopes was trying to import them, what happened?

Retays have been available in Canada for a few years now and though they are nice looking rifles, no body has been bragging about owning one yet. That is of the people who have said they got one. Um.

These rifle had a good write up by the shooting party in the UK. Of course in their review it was pitted against an HW97K. Not hard to imagine who won in that deal. Of course the HW is quite a bit more money than this rifle. Out of 100 the HW scored an 89 to the Retay 82.

Since I now own both a 97k and the Retay Sport I think the shooting party review was pretty spot on. There are differences in the rifles for sure. Weight goes to the Retay being lighter. Length on the retay is about 3 inches longer. Trigger is all HW97K, that Rekord trigger just can't be beat. Power in this rifle goes to the Retay- but Gene tuned it, not sure what pre-tune looked like. I do like the thumbhole stock on the Retay, I have small hands so the thick wrist on the 97k is definitely a handful. The factory sights on the Retay are not useable with the high comb unless you rest your cheek behind the comb (makes no sense at all). Overall though a well designed rifle besides the factory sight set up.
