Scope and rings for a .22 P-rod with shoulder stock?

Please suggest low to moderately priced scopes and rings for an unmodified .22 P-rod with shoulder stock. I'm partial to mil-dot and side focus and will likely not attempt shots longer than 50 yards.

Lots of folks love the bug buster and it's available with side focus and mil dots. I personally have a fixed 6x mildot scope on mine and it works great for me

There are SO many choices these days - I think I will modify that, TOO many choice to wade through.

I do not know your definition of moderate, but would suggest the new UTG BB 3-12x32.

I now have a few of these:



Note this is a new model with side parallax adjustment, and it is the version with dove tail rings, unlike a version with QD rings that will not fit (as with other BB scopes).   Amazon price has varied between $83 and $104 the past few weeks.

I found about 40 scopes that fulfilled most of my requirements:

Either short and variable — or 3-9x / 3-12x

I have the cheaper UTG 3x9x32 bug buster.
Not a single complaint.

It's been on my at44,bullboss,bulldog and my 1322.
For $97 I do not see a better optic.

Same here.  Got the BugBuster 3-9x32 (w/mildots) a couple of days for my Prod and NO complaints so far.  I 've had the Bugbuster 6x32 for 11 years now on several guns and it still works perfectly and holding zero, so I went with another BugBuster again for my new Prod, and because I didn't want a full sized scope to weigh the gun down or make it more front heavy.  I got the BB 3-9x32 for $54 at Amazon.  It is $55.x  right now.  It has the regular A/O but no side focus.  The new BB 3-12x32 has SF but it's almost twice the price. 

You might want the newer one with 12x though because you mentioned 50 yard shooting.  For me 9x is fine because I won't be shooting it past 25-30 yards.

The only thing with the Bugbuster is that because of its short length some people require a cantilever/offset scope mount to bring it back more and closer to the shooter.  I am leaning forward a little to get the proper sight/full picture but I am not really straining my neck yet, so we 'll see if I decide to get a cantilever mount.  It did bother me when I had the BB 6x32 on the Mrod and took it off after 1 (hunting) season.

Bug Busters look to be a good bet. I was about to submit payment, but backed out because of problematic eye relief.

The spectrum ffp that crosman has on sale works good on the prod but check the reticle and see if you will like it. I have one and love it

I went with the 3x9 due to its compact design.
I mostly got it for my bulldog so I have a 4" killzone.
On the AT44 or Bullboss the 12 power would be the better choice.

I don't think the BugBusters have "problematic eye" relief.  I 've had worse with other inexpensive scopes like CenterPoint, Simmons, Tasco, and some BSA, all under $100.  I think the BB's have very decent eye relief and similar to most scopes I have in the $100-$200 range.  The issue for some people is that it is a compact scope and only 8.11" long, but it does fit the Prod well which is a compact rifle/carbine.  So many people here think the BB suits the Prod well, and I happen to agree with them.  The Bugbuster is NOT suited for many full size rifles unless you use cantilever scope mount/rings.

I see you have a 2240 carbine.  That is very similar in size to the Prod.  What don't you use the same setup you have on the 2240?

No issue with BB eye relief here.   All mine are within 3 years of manufacturer.   There was talk in the past of early BB eye relief issues.

My Bug Buster eye relief feels like all my other larger scopes.

I remember older versions back in the day was commonly used on pistols and the Benjamin 39x series guns.

My eye on rest about 3"-4"away from the 3x9x32 compact.

The BB eye relief is about the same as most rifle scopes.  The issue comes up because it is so much shorter than most (pictured w/sunshade), and hence is further away.   There is very little to work with, on ring spacing, on the short tube.   The offset is needed to get the eye piece back to where a "normal" scope would be.   On mine, the offset also added more height, which I didn't want.  It is about as high as high rings and the scope only needs mediums.   I'm going to try a single medium ring next.  I will have to move it forward a little, to clear mag, but think that will be OK.   This is the 3-12X32 SAO.

The Spectrum 4-12X44 seems nice so far.  I have it on a Fortitude w/med rings.  The larger Fortitude mags, do just touch the center section.  It wouldn't be an issue with the shorter prod mags.
