Chinese knock off mount

I have one that I did the set screw mod to and it works just fine. I installed set screws on all 4 corners of the mount and tightened them down until there was no more play but it would still slide like it's suppose to.

Where did you put the set screws? Can you show a picture?

I am thinking drilling on one end close to the eyepiece, two holes on top and two holes on the side

I disassembled my Mizagawa mount and did some measurements. The sliding rod is 5.88mm in diameter, the hole is 6.31mm to 6.44mm. so there is a play about 0.5mm

The drinking straw fits the hole almost perfectly. But I could not slide the straw over the rod. Can only do it for a short distance. Wish there is a metal straw of same size

How about trying slitting the straw lengthwise?
Or if that's still too tight; maybe removing a little from the slit or slitting the straw in 1/2  lengthwise  & using only 1/2 of the straw would work

Sure. I cut open a little trying to pull in, was able to do half length.  I may have to catch 5he remaining portion open.

Hi Robert, I drilled holes on the 4 corner with 9/64 " bits, which is smaller than 4mm. However, I do not see any 5greads after drilling, and the set nylon crews will not stay.

How did you get the hole with threads? Are you using 4mm screws?

I used 10/32 screws with loctite. I rounded the point real smooth and tightened them until there was no more play but it would still slide smoothly. I used a dry lube to help it.

I used drill to drill a hole but it had no threads. I am getting some tap and die tools to make threads, hopefully that will hole the screws there with some loctite.

Of course you need a tap to thread the holes.
