Hiram pump?

I ordered a “Hiram” Chinese pcp pump from Amazon for $59. Chose this pump over others mainly because it comes with a water filter on the end of the hose. Unfortunately I just saw one of the customer photos of water leaking out of the pump, which tells me it’s one of the Chinese pumps that has water inside it, apparently as a coolant. This certainly doesn’t sound desirable to me, especially since I’ve damaged two guns with moisture from my now pitted and corroded Benjamin pump.
Anyone dealt with one of these “water cooled” Chinese pumps? Can/should I take it apart and dry it out?

Interesting...I posted the question on Amazon asking if the pump had water in it. The seller promptly responded and said the pump is indeed water cooled, but due to shipping limitations it does not come with water in it, and “you may add water to it on your end”. Hopefully it functions without water, so I won’t have to deal with that...

Ron, you should read the other replies to
your question on Amazon
.
For what it is worth, I had never heard of a water cooled HPA hand pump until your post.
So, I did some searching and could not find ONE verifiable instance of a water cooled HPA hand pump.
Good luck!

The things that lead me to believe there are pumps with water, or some kind of liquid in them, are a couple youtube videos showing how to take some of these Chinese pumps apart for service. Both show the subjects getting the pumps about halfway apart, then pouring some kind of clear liquid out into a container. When they put the pumps back together, they pour the liquid back in. Unfortunately neither video are in English, so no way to tell what the stuff is. In addition, one of the reviewers of this pump showed a photo of the pump standing in a puddle, and stated that the liquid came out of the hose and pressure relief valve. (Didn’t see that until after I placed my order...)
Every pump, including the expensive Hill, has it’s share of bad reviews. I think most of the worst reviews I’ve read are for the Benjamin pump, which I used for 4 or 5 years. Apparently from the reviews I’ve read, all the mid price range pumps, (benjamin, gamo, hatsan, etc.) are as bad or worse than the cheap Chinese pumps, and the Hill is only slightly better.
Now I’m thinking I should just return this pump unopened as soon as it arrives. Since I can’t afford a $250 Hill anywhere near Christmas time, I may well just toss both PCP rifles in the back of a closet and go back to pumpers. (My Christmas present is a Custom Shop 1322
). Might revisit PCP’s next summer...

I too have heard of the water in the pump for coolant and even had some water come out when I bled mine after the first fill. It may have done it those first couple times, but it stopped soon afterward and I haven't seen it again.
However, water in the gun from hand pumping is an issue for some, but not others. Seems to depend on climate and technique. Some have methods for avoiding it, like 20 or 40 strokes, then bleed the pump before continuing the fill. Others get the "gold filter" kit for their fill line and use that to absorb water. I opted for desiccant in my source air for the hand pump. I have a small compressor that I use to feed air to my pump inlet at about 10 PSI. (The use of even low pressure air cuts the number of strokes to fill by almost half.) The compressor tank has several ounces of silica in the tank. Not very convenient actually, but I figured it worth the experiment while I was messing with things and I don't pump often enough that I'd soon use it up. The desiccant absorbs water better at higher pressure anyway. It's due for an inspection to see how much it has taken up.
Actually, what started that idea was a desiccant pack that I made up for the bottle on my R10. I actually have about 6 grams of silica gel in the buddy bottle, packaged in a paper tube. I installed that while I had the valve out for service for, guess what--a moisture problem! To be truthful, I don't know if that moisture came from me or the first owner, but there was a little bit in there and some in the gun, so I figured the amount of silica I had put in was good insurance at the minimum. It too needs a check and a report back to the forum.

Well the pump arrived the other day and looked pretty good. However when I attached it to my disco, it clicked on just like the old pump, but as soon as I started pumping it kept blowing off.
I returned the Chinese pump, and decided to try again to rebuild what’s left of my Benjamin. The wife didn’t want that mess on the kitchen table again, (It’s way too cold in Truckee right now to do much in the garage), and she said that as much as I shoot, just go ahead and order the Hiil. Airguns of Arizona has the MK4 with dry pack for $199, which is a good price. Looking forward to it’s arrival so I can see how it works.
