Short Range Sights for a PROD

I just ordered another PROD and am on the hunt for short range sights for pesting fox squirrels.  We are talking 5-10ft.  Any suggestions?  There is a Japanese maple tree just outside a balcony on my home that the little guys are feasting on.  They also mistake my Christmas lights for food on the same tree.

I have never tried to zero anything that close.  I say hang a Christmas light near the end of the muzzle.  Come chew on this.

I have Burris fastfire III and a Vortex venom on my pistols same concept just way more expensive . I should have bought the cheaper versions , my astigmatism can’t tell the difference between 2 MOA or 10 MOA .hahaha

I've never tried to shoot anything that close either, but for that range I would at least think about an open sight.  Of course this requires mounting a front sight on the PROD, and I would think about a peep sight for the rear with a fairly large hole.  One issue you may find shooting at that close range is getting the sight adjusted so the shot does not go lower than where you are sighting.  With open sights, this requires a rear sight that is higher than the front sight, so make sure that rear sight can be adjusted high enough.  I would think a peep sight can be adjusted to hit at 5 or 10 feet .   A red dot sight may be an easier solution as long as it can be adjusted for that short of a distance.  I'm not sure about that.

Look for the videos 1721 did on the Prod.  He did some pretty fancy shooting, read accurate, with the Prod without any sights on the gun.  at the really close range you need to shoot, I bet that a days practice without the sights would turn out to work just fine for you.

Shots like that have come up occasionally, but I've never set an optical sighted pistol just for that range.
Becasue of the sight line/bore line miss-match, the shots would be low.  Sight line closer to bore line would be a help (low iron sights would be a close as you could get).

You certainly can set up a sacope or red dot for that 10 foot range.....but it will be shooting quite high at normal ranges (for that matter,would be a noticable change between 6-7 feet and 13- 15 feet).

With rifles (and I'll count trhe P-Rod in a stock with them), with a low power scope sighted in for normal ranges,  shots would still be in the scope's field of view...just way low.  Most scopes aren't really focused at 5-10 feet,but the low-low powered ones (varaibles with a bottom end of like 1.3-2X) are normally useful.

Think I'd just try sighting in whatever sight you are using to get as close as mounting/adjustments would let you.

I had another thought.  Put a shotgun bead at the muzzle end of the shroud, and another smaller bead further back, just like some shotguns have.  Line them up.  That's the lowest sight you can get so closest to the bore. 

I ordered a $230 PROD too, just like you.

I have a UTG reflex sight on my P-rod, using a 11mm to weaver adapter.  Entire cost is under 100 bucks.  Very fast and accurate.

 If you are only shooting at that set distance one of these do the short range jobs nicely. I have 2 of them according to amazon I have them set for the short range work to assist other sights/ scopes.

Right now I'm running a Pinty 3x9x32 A.O. Tactical, on my P-Rod. Amazon Special for $36.79 and love it. You can dial down to 4x or 5x  and shoot up close no problem, or 9x for 20 to 30 yards. Perfect P-Rod companion, compact & lightweight.

Have also used cheaper 2-MOA red dot. Several offered in the $30 to $75 range. These are a sweet match for a P-Rod for closer work, 5-20 yards. Super light, fast target acquisition (moving squirrel) and you can keep both eyes open, a real plus on those  pesky little critters.

5-10 feet?!
 A prod is over kill... i sudjest using a daisy buck bb rifle. They are perfect.

The only problem is Eastern Fox Squirrels are tough.  I ordered an SS valve to get the power up a bit and am still waiting on it.  My MROD does fine on them.  The PROD is right on the edge.

The Prod will knock the heck out of the squirrels. Turning up the power takes you into coons and opossums for sure. Look at getting an LDC from Rocker1.  He does custom shrouds too if needed.
