Perhaps it's biggest downfall. When I tune them and give them as gifts I soften the edges of the upper shroud. They're still dangerous in that regard however.

Well mine ordered on Dec 1st is now showing delivery on Saturday but the two ordered on the 6th are showing delivery on Friday. But none are showing shipped as of yet so I guess I will see them when they get here.

and on the pinching thing, I've never gotten pinched by my old 2004 and I might have gotten pinched by my 1377 sometime in the last 25 years but must have learned about 25 years ago to pump open palmed because it is automatic for either...

Fortunately, this hasn't happened to me. I rest the underside of the pistol on my lap, and push down with my left palm, fingers fully extended. I usually slip on mechanics gloves on my left hand to cushion against the sharp rail on top of the pistol.

Yes, very good advise. I inadvertently closed my palm and as the pump closed the gun pinched my palm just below my little finger. It still is not completely healed. Learned my lesson after that!

Yesterday I tried open-sight shooting for an hour, and struggled on the consistency. Partly this is due to my poor vision. If I see the target clear with one pair of glasses then I could not see the sight clear, vice versa. Age does taking its toll on me.

Probably it is also harder to be consistent. I tried to form a triangle with the red fiber in front and the two green dot in the rear, and make the target on the same plane. But it is easy to be off, hard to be consistent.

Any tricks?

This has helped me, though I can not tell one from the other. If you find a single one cheaper, might be a better choice.

A device that uses the pinhole effect and may sharpen both the target and the sights is the Merit Optical Attachment. I think this unit may be adjusted for aperture size.

A pair of cheap pinhole sunglasses MIGHT also be an improvement.

I do not think that the pinhole effect will fix astigmatism.

One may test the pinhole effect for free with home made devices, even a piece of paper
with a pin hole.

The pinhole effect will also the eye to focus on items held very close to the eye.

This is what it took for me to steady my rear sight. It is a DIY brass shim made of hobbyist bar stock from a rack of K&N Precision metals at Ace Hardware stores. It has held very well, and, is very accurate from 15' -> 50' with this shimming. It does not effect the windage adjustability.
