Heart and lunged a crow

The crows are out lately and causing a big ruckus. I took this one broadside with a gen2 fortitude at approximately 40 yards. Hope you all are having a great Wednesday. . I am.

Crow season is open just about everywhere now.  The difficulty is distinguishing them from Ravens, which are protected.  Often they hang together in the same flocks.

I’ve been shooting the tin of 14.3 g cphp that came with the rifle. 

I love the gen2 fortitude. Yes what folks say aren’t good about it are true. Mainly the trigger. It’s a 30 dollar fix from baker airguns (brass trigger kit) and I recommend doing it asap.

Other than that it shoots very well and you get a lot of shots per fill. I spent a pile of money making a discovery into less of a rifle.

If you see one rat in your yard you probably wouldn’t think twice about it other than the fact you saw a rat. If you get a pile of rats in your yard you would probably want to cut them back.

Crows are similar. Why bother with a crow? Don’t.  When you are starting to have a crow problem you can teach them a lesson by shooting a few and they will avoid your yard.

Why Don’t I want a bunch of crows in my yard?  I grow a lot of my own food. They really destroy my fruit in my orchards and they can really cause a lot of damage to my squash and corn.

No I don’t eat them. My friend did try one and he said it taste like liver. I don’t particularly like liver. Anyone out there who eats them have a different opinion on them? 

I am a hunter.

On top of all that it is crow season.

I'm not a liver fan either.  I shot a woodcock once, and when I dressed it I was surprised how dark the breast was.  Sort of liver-colored.  Yup, tasted like liver.  No more woodcock for me.

I didn't know crows caused garden damage.  I have them around my place now and then and I have a garden and they never bothered it.  If they did I'd be blasting them, too.

We heard a big ruckus being made by a bunch of crows this morning.  I went out to investigate and saw two Great Horned Owls in a tree with dozens of crows all around them.  Even when I approached, many of the crows would not leave.  They hate owls more than they are scared of me.  One of the owls flew off and landed in another tree, and all the crows followed.

That is a magnificent looking bird.  They always give me the creeps a little, though.
