Crosman 2250XL or 2260 as next gun?
«

I'm after something with more grunt than my 1377 and 2240, and I can get both the 2250XL & 2260 at a good price.
The 2250XL seems to get OK reviews, but I'm not finding a great deal of info' on the 2260.
Anyone had either of these, and if so, what's your thoughts on which to buy?

Not much different in them internally, would you rather have the pistol grip carbine or a wood stocked rifle? That's pretty much the deciding factor.

The "factory" internals will be the same as your 2240. so other than a longer barrel there is nothing to give you "more grunt".
You would need to go with the addition of some aftermarket power adders.
The possibilities are endless, but for example like Alchemy Airwerks "Boss RP" valve an TP sets.

As already stated, 22XX air guns are identical in their working parts. A 24 inch barrel on a 2240 or 2250 will shoot just like a 2260 (all things being equal).
The choice comes down to which cosmetic style is desired.
I visited a British AG vendor website - it was stated the 2250XL has a steel breech, but the image clearly show the plastic breech. For either 2250 or 2260, the steel breech is highly recommended, especially if a scope is to be mounted.

There is a 2260MB (Metal Breech) from certain vendors.

i have the 2260, and it's been modded to 15 fpe, has an extended probe, left hand steel breech and the stock trigger worked to a very crisp snap. i won the barrel lottery as it easily puts 5 rounds inside a dime at 30 yards. the TKO moderator makes it indoor friendly and i get about 25 good shots from a cart before the poi changes. it's very lightweight and when squirrel season opens august 1st, it's my go to gun. it's only drawback is with the TKO on the muzzle, it makes for a long woods gun. (44.5") the barrel could always be cut down and the gun worked to sub 12 fpe if you don't have a fac.
if i remember correctly it was shooting around 10 fpe stock and getting 40 good shots per cart.

You could always get a disco , which is basically a 2260 modded to run off hpa. Would have to buy a cheap hand pump is about the only draw back but would be offset by the price of Co2 carts in the long run. Plus it's double the fpe!

Good point Carl, I did not realize Damian, the OP, was in England where they have the 12 fpe rules.

I like my 2260's and my 2250's too.
The 2250 "
XL
" is not listed in the Crosman manual list. I think it may not have been sold here in the USA? I have several 2250's and 2250B's and one 2250XE. I just don't remember anything about the
XL
designation.
All of them can be tuned to <12fpe. My favorite 2260 Carbine has a 18" barrel and shoots Crosman 14.3 at 610 fps so 11.82fpe, I don't remember the temps that day so YEMV. If you choose to push close to the limit just make sure you are aware of all the factors that can cause results to vary to stay out of trouble.
