13xx trigger group...front screw loose....AGAIN

I'm sure I'm not the first to have this problem. Since the wise asses at crosman want to make their valve bodies of aluminum, and make the valve the anchor point for the front grip screw in the 13xx pumpers( and vice versa), trouble was bound to happen, and I simply cannot bring myself to keep tapping threads when I know they are overstressed to begin with. Even before I feel the wobble,  the friggin sear slips and scares the *(&^ outta me.

Any of ya have any bright ideas for a LONG TERM fix for this? It's not alot of metal to work with or I would've heli coiled and sleeve retainer-ed that SOB long ago

Do the old brass units have similar enough dimensions for flat topping?

Get some Vibra-Tite VC3. It goes on the fastener and you let it dry before assembly unlike Loctite. It becomes pliable and rubberlike to hold instead of a cement. It doesn't need to be reapplied every time and works GREAT!!

I love it and you bet whatever I end up using will have that on it but I can't use it to bear the load that threads were meant to, I need intact threads first... now sealing them is another story.. I do swear by that stuff though. Beats the *(&^ outta low strength threadlocker

The stake in the bottom of the tube, which the back of the valve rests against, is supposed to take the load, not the front trigger screw.... Did they miss staking your tube, or not stake it properly, or has the back of the valve been shortened?.... I have used and abused lots of aluminum valves, and never seen any hint of a problem with the front trigger screw....

I agree, even though I have seen a valve that the back was a little messed up from people leaving the front trigger screw loose.

The Vibra-Tite doesn't take the stress, it keeps the screw in place so IT can take the stress.

I do believe you nailed it Bob.

Every time I've had this one apart, and I've had several valves before I settled on this valve and piston arrangement, not one ever rested on it...it's my only 13xx gun so I'd assumed it was a safety redundancy of some kind...but was a little confusing from the start why it didn't rest all the way back. Thank you crosman🙄

I suppose until I get a new tube I'll find a stop gap of some kind...and tap my front out to...I guess it'll be 1/4 now 🙄

I pinned 2 of my 1377 valve like Wyoman did in this picture. Never seen valve back notched by the stopper before making it slide back.

Now we cooking with gas😁. I had considered that before, and it could be a semi permanent solution as long as I re tap the original grip screw.

 I'm beginning to wonder if the ill pressed tab on my tube may be far back enough to interfere with hammer travel?
