Benjamin Maximus valve assembly attachment

Quick question as I have a Maximus on the way but only have diagrams for reference for the time being.

If I understood correctly the groove in the valve body marked in red is for the green bolt that attaches the trigger group to the air tube:



Does this serve a structural purpose given that there are two screws that also hold the assembly in place?

Yes. When the retaining screws, (38) are installed the groove will be correct.

That is the stock lug, it holds the trigger assembly in and the bolt that secures the stock threads in to it. It does not secures the valve.

In that case, I suppose there wouldn't be an issue replacing the standard single part with two separate components like so:

Lol, just making sure I was looking at it right! Interesting idea for sure. As far as knowing if it has been done, I have no clue! That's above my pay grade. I'm sure some of the more knowledge guys will be along and can help. I'll just see if I can follow along and learn something!

Am pretty sure it is un-needed... can get max fpe by simple porting the valve and it is the gage block/assembly (#30)  that needs ported or replaced with a prod gage block/assembly...

Interesting idea - It would add a small amount of tube volume in an unregulated rifle (or a small increase in plenum volume in a regulated rifle.

First offset bore the gauge block .... but of course while it's apart ... ^^^

Crosman air17 from the 80s? Had a one piece valve that was like what you are talking about. It was a single stroke pump so it had no need for a check valve and no screw through the tube needing sealing.. it was also in a 3/4 id tube as opposed to the 5/8 tube pumpers. The valve had a spring held on with a c clip on the back (hammer) side of the valve. The biggest disappointment? It was plastic. Were this idea might pay off though is s short stubby pistol were you need all the inner space you can get.. or a big bore pistol..

My goal is to squeeze as much power out of it with acceptable noise levels, and to that end a large plenum should help.

Apart from the increased volume it will also be easier to machine as I'm planning to machine new components from scratch.  Should receive the rifle tomorrow, looking forward to taking it to pieces, though I will shoot a couple of strings for a "before" comparison.
