Bed liner Paint

yes. great for that.

MY issue is getting the stuff one thcik enough AND not get it uneven or bubbly....

It takes a long time to get bedliner  on thick & cured.  Thin coats a couple of days apart will probably do it.
I put it on to thick the first time and while it seemed dry it was not and eventually "rubbed" off and made a mess. 
For a real good application allow a week or so to do the multiple THIN applications of the liner a couple of days apart.  The more thin coats you do will even out the surface. 
Clean with an alachlor rub first to clear oils  and spray & waite.

+1 I try to speed the drying process by leaving it hanging in the sun.
 I used it on 2240 barrel band, last, and hung it in the oven, low temp for about half an hour.
 It's rock hard!

+2, I used Rustoleum  truck bed spray paint on several of my guns.
Painted wood looks just like textured plastic and wears like iron.
Going to paint a wood stock this weekend with Rutoleum Pro TB paint.

If so
Which brands worked well?
(Duplicolor, Rustoleum, & Raptor are the ones I know of that come in colors other than black)
