My new project

I'm working on a air shotgun now. It should be done  a week. Modifying a  MOD 130S Vortex QE Breakbarrel  it is done it will be a smooth bore 7.874 shotgun. Here's some of the ammo. A paper casing. Holding 47.3 grains of shot The casing weight is 1.7

    My concept is from the civil war. Buck and ball loads. But has been modified I also use it in my 28 ga Muzzleloader shotgun, the sabots are larger and use heavier gauge paper casing.

 The cartridge is a thin piece of tubing made to 7.874  there is a  wad in the breach end. The case is cut in ten places around the top for crimping. They are filled with shot. Then they are crimped and a small drop of dopp wax keeps the crimp closed. 

When the gun is fired it compresses the wad splitting the paper casing and opens the crimp. The barrel is slightly choked further opening the casing as it leaves the barrel

I had made some sabots in the 7.62 pellet size they shoot well in the rifled barrel of my MOD 130S Vortex QE and have a good spread up to about 36 or so feet more than that it will probably be ineffective.

 Purchased another MOD 130S Vortex QE Breakbarrel to modify. My other is broke in and it's very fun to shoot.

I will be updating all of you soon on the progress, testing etc of my project shotgun.

There is nothing wrong with budget guns. Some are as good as ones you pay much more for. It's not like all of us shoot competition. As long as you can hit what your shooting a it don't matter. I've never had to group pellets in a tin can or critter!

The barrel is done reamed and polished to 8mm the shroud will be cut and reinstalled to cover the end nut a bead sight installed and the gun reassembled.

will the baffles in the QE cause issues with the paper shot sack ?

Finally!  A good use for a break-barrel airgun!  Since I can't hit anything with a powerful springer using a single pellet, make it into a shotgun, then I'll be able to hit something!  Won't have to worry about using the "artillery hold" either.

There will be no baffles the shroud will be cut to length long enough to just cover the barrel end nut.

Takes practice to shoot a spingers but once you get the hang of it and practice you'll hit your target consistently.

Short effective range is definitely my experience with the .51 Farco.  The power is there but the shot spreads too quickly.

I tried 8 x 0.177" BBs at 50 feet fired at a soda can, they patterned nicely in a 1 foot square and did not lack power, punching straight through 1/4" thick fiberboard - but the can was untouched. Definitely a short range weapon without a choke. Same target at the same range with 30 x #4 shot (about 1/8" diameter) resulting in a similar spread and only three hits on the can.

About the same spread as my gamo viper with roughly 15 size 8 or 9 shot. Anything past 10yds is really pushing it.

But you have way to much time on your hands if you are going to make all the shells.

I finally got to shoot it once. It gets dark so early. I will be shooting it extensively on Monday. This is from 15 feet.
