Rx1 20cal rebarrel to 22??

I finally have this Rx1 working perfectly. This rifle is a 20 caliber. While I like the idea of 20 cal for a gun of this power, the pellet choices are few and expensive. I'm considering rebarreling it to 22. I can get a new barrel from chambers for around 120 dollars plus shipping. They're so many pellet choices in 22, it's tempting. I'm particularly interested in some of the hunting pellets. The only hunting pellet in 20 is the predators and I don't know if they're a gimmick or not. Anyway I'm open to any ideas or suggestions.

You may want to buy a new HW80 .22 from Krale approx $430 total delivered and then get the new Vortek SHO kit.
Then sell me the Rx1.

Thanks Dennis.    You know I only need the slightest push to do it. 

I have those peep sights coming, so now I need a new gun to put under them.
The Hw95L is probably my top pick.  Not sure which caliber yet. I usually would go 177cal on that power, but with peeps it'll be a short range hunter so 22 might be interesting.

I would seriously consider this if the Hw80 had a stock that extended to front of the breech block. The abbreviated stocks don't appeal to me. I've been looking for a 22 cal R1 for some time now.

Stick with the .20 cal - you have 11.42, 13.58, 13.73, 14, 14.3, and 15.89 grain pellets to choose from. Unless you plan on shooting the light weight lead free pellets or the 18.x grain JSB you have a decent selection there.

Who makes 14 and 14.3 pellets in 20 cal. Benjamin? I haven't tried them because they don't get good reviews in Weihrauchs. Right now only the 13.73 qnd 13.58 pellets work well in this rifle. I've tried the 11.42 and 15.89 and they both print inches away from the 13 grain stuff which requires total re-zeroing. The JSB heavies wouldn't group well for me. This leaves me two pellets, neither one are made for hunting.

Grey squirrels on my buddies property upstate. I get pass throughs in good body shots and had some still run around a lot before dying. Even head shots they flip all over the place on nerves, even though they are technically dead. A buddy of mine says he doesn't get pass throughs with crow magnums in his 22 springer. He says they expand, dump all the energy and doesn't get any runners. Also 20 caliber ammo is just more expensive. My Rx1 is set at 19fpe. Heck I would even like to try wadcutter if they made one. There's just not enough choices.

I’ve gotten death ray kills on 7 south Florida invasive iguanas from 11 to 21 yards with a BSA Ultra SE in .25 cal (20 grain FTT @ 490 FPS at the muzzle) and a Beeman R9 in .20 (13.73 grain JSB @ 650 FPS at the muzzle), all head shots and the iguanas weren’t small.

Iguanas. Interesting. I'm not sure how iguanas are compared to squirrels. An R9 in 20 caliber is a nice gun! Love my very similar Hw95 in 177. I think that guns power is perfectly matched to 20 caliber. I'm on the fence about what caliber to order a Hw95 Luxus (similar to the R9) to put peep sights on as a short range pester. I'm back to the pellet choice and availability. Ugh what a rabbit hole this is.

Bayman; I'm inclined to believe that pass throughs are just a fact of life w/a .177 @ short to mid yardage. I've gotten them (for the most part) w/ my .22 15# rifle @ 50yds. As long as yer hittin' heart/lungs it's only a matter of seconds... If they jump straight up @ impact... Job done.

At 15 yards or so, I kill iguanas with my LP-8 shooting about 450fps.  1 inch behind the eye and 1/2 lower is the death spot.  You don't need a .25 for this.
Placement is the key.  Hope you eat the Igi's after you kill them?

I'm sorry, I didn't mean compare in taste. I meant as in easy or hard to kill. Some critters are tougher than others.

No worries, I should though I know a couple of guys from PR that do. I’m not handy when it comes to cooking. I actually feel bad for them but the state has declared war on them. They are all over down here, at any given time I have 3-4 in my yard that leads up to a canal/lake. Back to you original post the squirrels dancing around is probably a normal nerve death dance.
