Hw30 177 or 20 cal.

 So I’ve got a 20 cal Beeman r7 in the cart at pyramid air, it’s not available till the first week of November. I can be patient but I’ve never had a 20 cal air rifle before.
 I’ve got several air rifles in 22 and 177 but after John in PA forced me to try an r7 he just finished I’ve got a need😳. So for those of you who have experience with both 20 and 177 in the hw30s I would greatly appreciate your opinion.

I have owned all three calibers of the R7 or HW 30 rifles.   My opinion is the .177 is the most useful caliber in this power plant.  They all shot good and all were fun.  The .177 has the best trajectory and the most available pellets.  The AA or JSB 7.33 pellets are a good pellet in a lot of the guns of this power.  They are great little rifles in whatever caliber you choose.  Good luck.

I have 2 Hw30s in 177 and Love them. I have an Rx1 in 20 that I'm considering rebarreling to 22 because as of now there are only 4 quality pellets made in 20 caliber and they are all domed. I'm sorry 5 types if you count predators. My 20 cal only shoots 2 types well so ammo availability is a pain. Oh and pricey too. The Hw30 /R7 platform is such a fun gun that can an will probably be shot for hours so it wouldn't be too economical in 20 cal. Imo 177 is the way to go for a lower powered springs. I also second the 7.33 gr suggestion

.20 barrel on a low powered HW30?

LOL....I didn't like the .20 barrel on a Beeman R9 (more velocity than a HW30) compared to the .177 barrel on the same gun. Also tried a .22 barrel on the same gun and the trajectory was also "excessively loopy" just like the .20 cal.

After one season shooting the .20 and one half season shooting the .22 I sold both barrels, reverted back to .177 cal never to look back!

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I’ve changed the order to 177 and the plus is I have plenty of pellets and it will arrive sooner. I look forward to plinking with a lighter rifle and the option of being a basement warrior this winter when shooting outside would confuse me as to wether I’m shivering from the cold or I’m just holding my breath too long 🙄
