I have an spare upper that Lee545 helped me with while he was also installing his 25 plenum on my Skyhawk.
i had Lee545 cut the barrel by one inch and then thread it to 5/8x18. I then cut down my spare shroud to where the threaded portion of the barrel are exposed through the end cap, which is opened to allow the barrel to go through.
Nothing new with this as there are several Bulldog carbines around like this.
The difference is after I put 3 of the Pitbull barrel supports in, I then topped it off with a 5/8x18 nut, which can be tightened or loosened with a torque wrench to see the effect of accuracy. I also have a stock barrel and shroud to compare with.
And yes I am aware of the attachment screws in the reciever and the limitations of how much tension of that set-up. My Bulldog is altered to allow me to access the barrel retention screws so I can quickly change barrel and shroud assemblies without tearing down the rifle.
Now I need to get out and test the set-up.

I look forward to seeing your results. I seem to recall a post (by I think Tom from AAA) that tensioning effectiveness dropped off with barrels longer than 26 inches. However, with the added barrel supports, and the fact that you cut 1 inch off the stock barrel, it will likely help a lot. Watch out for temperature changes, and the bolt should be quite tight.
