Simple........springs in HW guns break faster when 10.5 grain pellets are used. This claim was made by Jim Maccari ("The Spring Man" now of Air Rifle Headquarters) decades ago and I found this to be true when my brother only shot CPH (10.5 grain) pellets. At that time we both shot about 10,000 shots per year (a 1250 count box per month) and a good Maccari aftermarket spring would be replaced about every other season. After a couple years my brother switched to the 7.9 grain CPL and his spring breakage was reduced. After the switch to lighter pellets I only replaced one Maccari spring and it spent half of it's "life" shooting heavies. The new replacement spring never broke while still living in West Virginia (moved to North Carolina) a few years later. Anywhoo.....Weirauch considers main springs and piston seals to be "consumables" (like tires on a car) to be replaced when needed and not expensive. LOL.....even a good ARH bare spring costs less than $20 and the HW95 is a relatively easy gun to respring with a moderate amount of mechanical ability.

My HW98 does "fair" with the H&N Barracuda FT 9.57g, "Better" with their Baracuda Match 10.65g 4.52, but "Best" with the FTT 8.64g. I am talking strictly group size at 10m out to 35yard... FPE doesn't matter to me if I can't hit exactly where I aim. Especially since I am usually only punchin paper.
It's a part of the fun that airguns is to me.
