hey guys,
im in the market for a step up pcp from my disco. my two likely candidates are either the Talon or Condor...
can you guys tell me what each guns max energy is in .22? i know the condor is about 60fpe but i cannot find any info one the Talon (not SS) im looking at the regular talon 18" barrel (i think). also how many shots on low-med-high power approx for each gun. thankyou

ohh and what would you need to be able to fill both guns with my benjamin handpump? and what would you need if i eventually buy a scuba tank? i have no idea about how to fill with a scuba tank, it seems very confusing.
thanx

This is what helped me decide. And if you feel the need to PM Harry go right ahead and do it he will most definitely help.
He has me convinced to go with the condor, but it all depends on your application for the Airforce rifle.
http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php/topic,15187.0.html
I cant wait to get mine!!!!!!
The TalonSS puts out about 20 fpe with 14.3 grn at full power. The Talon will put out about 28 fpe with 14.3 grn.
If you want to see a video on both go to Pyramid air and check out the video. Paul Capello does the SS and the condor in one review about 16 minutes long. Like I said it depends on your application.

thanks man. im leaning toward the talon. im mainly looking to use this rifle to hunt ghogs, squirrels, fox and coons.
i think 28 fpe should be fine for all within 30-50 yards. what do you think? can you get more out of the talon with kodiaks or eugins?

The Talon and Condor should both produce more power (FPE) with heavier pellets.... The optimum fill pressure and/or adjustments may be different, however....

I have a .22 Talon (18" barrel) and a .22 Condor. Both are outstanding shooters and hunters and I love both of em. Sometimes I like to take the shorter Talon into the woods with me and other times I opt for the longer and much more powerful Condor. I know you'd be happy with either but my advice is to get the Condor. You're correct,, the talon would indeed be effective on small and medium sized game out to 50 yards no problem however if you get the Condor you will not only have that 28 FPE that you feel is acceptable but you'll also have the option, with the simple turn of a dial, to crank that power up to 60 FPE if you feel you need it, whether it be targeting even larger game or extending the reach well beyond 50 yards. Just my opinion...

I do not own a Talon, but own Condors. If you are going to hunt the larger critters like fox and raccoon and the distance may be up to 50yds, then I would recommend the Condor .22 or Condor .25. You can dial down the Condor .22 a lot and use JSB 18.1gr to get the power down to about 35fpe.
This can be accomplished by filling the gun to a lower pressure, because even at PowerWheel 0 (the lowest), anything smaller than the 21gr Kodiak will easily go supersonic at the normal fill pressures of 2700-2900 psi.
I also recommend the Condor, because from all the posts I have read over the years, many Talon owners upgrade their gun with Condor components to get Condor power. This can get costly. The minute you lose or wound 1 or 2 critters due to probably poor shot placement, you might think: "I need more power", and you will spend $300-400 to turn it into a Condor. I am not saying this will happen to you, but many people go that route. This why it pays in the long run to get a Condor from the start, IMO.
However, the Talon might be right for you, if 95% of your hunting is going to be squirrels and pesting in your backyard. It will still take care of the Groundhogs, coons, fox, possums and anything else out there with good shot placement. The Talon 18" is a good choice and puts out 30fpe or more with the heavier pellets. You can always install a 24" barrel in your Talon later on to bring it up to 40fpe.. but then you might as well get a Condor .22 from the start because 40 to 60fpe is where it's happy at
A Condor .25 will be averaging 70+fpe with the 31gr Kodiaks, so that is probably not for you since you are concerned with too much power.
I would highly recommend you get a Scuba tank or a 4500psi CF tank. There is nothing to it. It seems confusing at first, but actually very easy to use. I know I was all confused too, and scared of all the high pressure air stuff, but after a lot of reading I felt comfortable and ordered everything I needed.
All you need is the tank and the proper hose assembly for the valve that is on your tank (K-valve, DIN, or SCBA valve.. SCBA usually comes with the 4,500psi carbon fiber tanks, commonly called Fireman tanks by some. K and DIN come with 3K psi SCUBA tanks). The hose assembly needs to have a Foster female (stainless steel) quick-connect on the other end (most of them do, but you have to make sure when purchasing). That female Foster end connects to your Talon/Condor's tank which has the Air Force fill-adapter (that you screw) on it. The AF fill-adapter will/should have a Male quick-connect so it can be inserted into your hose's female. This male quick-connect on the AF fill-adapter is also referred to by many as a "Paintball adapter". So that's all there is to it.
The Disco & Marauder also have the same "paintball" male connector on them so you can hook up your hose from the Scuba to it. It is really very simple. Everything is easily attainable. All it takes is $$

jeff, harry thankyou very much. esp harry that info on how to fill and what i need helps GREATLY! that was my main reservation about the two guns i had no idea what id need to fill them correctly. thanks guys. i'm probably going to go with the talon just because most of my shooting is much less than 50 yards and 35 fpe w larger pellets would definately suit my needs esp for backyard target shooting.

Troy, not everyone is a power-monger like us, hehehe
I must admit I have used 75-80fpe in my backyard a few times
But I do my hardest to keep them below 70fpe
Condors are just too hard to put down. I have to start shooting my Springers again.. They are calling for me

It's very hard not to recommend the Condor when you own one, even when people ask: "what gun should I get to shoot some chipmunks and English Sparrows"? Instictively 2 words come to mind.. Condor .25!! But I don't always type what I think, hehehe

Your absolutely right, and I agree. But it's pretty nice to be able to dial them down to 600 fps and take them sparrows and still have something left to Identify, lol. A word of caution,,do NOT shoot an English sparrow with a Condor .25 at 25 yards! There's not much left for the cat, lol.

can you get the condor down to around 25-30fpe in .22? without modifying the hammer spring at all?

ok guys was just looking at reviews of the condor and the power is starting to become more and more appealing to me, also ive come accross the evanix ar6 and it seems to be in the same powerclass same price range.... now my new question is condor or ar6 lol? sorry i dont want to make a 700$ choice and then not be completely happy. i like the way the stock is more traditional on the ar6 vs the condors militaristic utilitarian look id have to think the ar6 may be more comfortable to me because im used to shooting trap w my shotguns and wood stocks are my soft spot lol.

I guess the reason I like the Condor is it's FPE and it's Simplicity. Most likely you will like the AR6 if your more comfortable with the traditional wooden stock. To bad you don't have someone close with one to see if you'd like it.
One thing I do have to say is,,I'm the same way as I looked at the Rainstorm,,but I'm real Happy I stuck to my guns.
Whatever you decide,,I hope you like it and it works out great for you.
