How to Fix a Liberty / Freedom / Aspen Valve Poppet

Hard to find a wire coat hanger around the house these days, but eventually did.  Hooked the valve in the TP/trench and was able to pull it out.  It took a good tug, too.  I did try creeping in forward with some picks, but just bent them.  Anyway, coat hanger is much easier than the dis-assembly to push it out with dowel rod. 

It indeed has a nick on the seat, and will try to clean up this evening.

Some 1500 to 2000 grit sand paper should clean it right up. Do the Jefferson State method of the folded sand paper with hole in the middle but instead of using a drill motor carefully turn it until there's no divot left.

I did do something similar to the poppet.   The hole needs to be wider than the poppet stem, to get around that flared out part of the oem. 

I chucked the valve in my benchtop press, and did some touchup on the seat.  It needs a little more, but ran out of time this AM.  There is not much seat height to work with, so going slow.

OK, valve and poppet are sealing now.    Three guns complete, two to go.

Material: 5/16" Delrin/Acetal Rod, a three inch piece is more than sufficient.  Commonly found in 1 foot increments:

Colors, can be black, white, off white, or tan, maybe others.  You won't be able to see it, so doesn't matter much.

The amazon link does not have 5/16", has several different sizes.  What size would I choose for a Liberty or is there a different link with the right size.  I don't know anything about this but wanted to future proof my Liberty with this and one of Duy Valves, I guess I have to press the peak into his valve.

It looks like that Amazon supplier is currently not offering any in 5/16" OD.  Search for "acetal rod 5/16".  Some come up on Amazon, but you will have plenty for a lifetime.  Three footers.   Also try ebay.  McMaster-Carr and other supply houses probably have it, as well.

You could also go to 3/8" OD and ditch the can.  See post #37 in thread.
