NASA members turned out in force to show off their shooting prowess on Wednesday August 7th at NASA’s bi-monthly 10 Meter Silhouette Match held at Outdoor America in Springdale Arkansas

. However, before the competition began shooters joined in wishing NASA Treasurer Chuck Bushong a Happy Birthday. NASA members sang ‘Happy Birthday’ and enjoyed a delicious Angel Food cake from one of Northwest Arkansas’ premier bakeries. Chuck wouldn’t reveal his age but one member counted 89 candles on the cake. After the celebration the marksmen began preparing for the match.
A full complement of shooters in the pistol relay resulted in high level of competition and the achievement of several personal bests. The Rifle relay turned out to be a family affair as regular shooter Thurman Hatch brought his son Tony Hatch to the range for the first time. Although there was some friendly banter between the two it was clear that both father and son were pleased to be in each other’s company.
Chris Fitz understands the importance of good eye protection. His father, Don, lost his right eye in a childhood accident. An avid shooter himself Don always insisted that his children wear protective eyewear when involved in high risk activities such as wood work, lawn care and shooting. Chris wears prescription eye glasses which is usually acceptable eyewear at the majority of ranges. However looking for more substantial eye protection Chris has tried a number of measures including prescription shop glasses that he found too heavy, eye shields that needed frequent replacement and over glasses that restricted his vision. Recently Chris found a great option with the ‘NoCry’ Safety over glasses from ‘NoCry Tools and Gear’. Available from Amazon the ‘NoCry’ Safety Glasses have clear anti-scratch lenses, adjustable arms, side shields and they are OSHA certified. Chris Fitz has worn them at the last two matches and he seems very satisfied with their performance thus far.
A medley of interesting rifles were on display during the rifle relays. Chuck Bushong - Beeman R7, Terrell Rohrbach - FWB 603, Pete Gilbert -HW30, Chris Fitz - Winchester 333, Brian Groves - JW60, Thurman Hatch - Daisy Powerline 953, Tony Hatch - BSA Comet, Terry Neumaster - Daisy 753s, Jimmy Owen - Beeman R9 & Arnold Smith - TX200. Club members could not recall the last time they’d seen this variety of AirGuns at a match.
After a thorough clean up a large group of shooters went to Taqueria Guanajuato for food, beverages and fellowship. I would be remiss if I didn’t say a good time was had by all.
