Well, I wouldn't call this a full-on review, but with all the pellet reviews out there I just felt like H&N deserved some props. Yeah, everyone knows that H&N makes good ammo, but I have to tell you that in 8 tins of .25 Barracudas, 2 tins of .25 FTT's, and 1 tin of .25 Beeman Crow Mags I never noticed a single deformed pellet. Every other tin of every other pellet I've owned had at least 1 or 2 misshapen pellets that I noticed, so that's saying something. Plus, all the H&N pellets are very clean, I never noticed any dust in the bottom of a tin of H&N's. I'd say I've seen what looked likea couple spoonfulls of dust leftover in some other tins. Today I was shooting from a tin of CPUM's and I found at least 4 misshapen pellets, and I probably actually fired less than a hundred times today. You definitely get what you are paying for with H&N.

Crow Mags: Beeman v H&N

Have you noticed a weight difference?...because I measured my first ever tins of these, shot ten of each, and got

I've had similar results. I recently went in on $100 plus worth of pellets from Pyramydair.com (every fourth tin free and free shipping) with a co-worker. The H&N's were my favorite. Prior to that my "go to" pellets were the beeman crow mags .22. for my Gamo silent cat. All were a great fit. The RWS hollowpoints also shot well in my friend's Diana 34.
The gamo pellets fit loose and eujins were way too tight.

I have not had a chance to put a lot of diff brand pellets through my 1377 and 1077 but the 8.1 H&N's rock in them !

H&N's Crow Mags and the Beeman Kodiak HP (H&N) are at the very top of my hunting pellet list. Both seat perfectly in my Diana and the Kodiaks seem more accurate at 30+ yds. and the Crow Mags hit like a freight train at less than 30 yds. I ordered 8 tins recently from Pyramydair, ordering: 3+1 free Kodiaks, 3+1 free Crow Mags. Boom!! Love em.

That’s weird, I have seen a lot of people say that H&N/Beeman Crows shoot well in their guns.

Out 15 guns (spring and pcp) I have yet to find a gun that likes the Crows pellets. Same goes for the FTS and the FTT line. In fact, they are usually the worst pellets.

I finilly (last winter) bought a gun that shot the Crosman Premier Hollow Points really well. CP heavies did a fair job in a few guns.

JSBs and Baracudas are the most liked pellets for most of my guns.

Now I have a gun that just about likes them all, the little red gun (CZ 200).

I guess I'm with you cactusrat. When I first got my RWS48 I tried several different pellets and I thought [mistakenly] that the Crow Mags were the best [.22 cal]. Ordered 10 tins from PA. Still have 9.5 tins.<g>

Turns out they are surpassed by several others, namely JSB 18.13 gr. and H&N Sport Field Target Trophy 14.66 gr.

In fact, the Crow Mags don't even shoot that accurately in my PCP HW100 and it likes most everything else.

This experience taught me a valuable lesson: before purchasing pellets in large quantities, make sure you know your rifle and it is 'broken in'. I'll be keeping the Crow Mags as there is no way I'm done with my airgun 'collection'. Maybe someday I'll have one that loves the CM's.

When getting JSBs and H&Ns don't forget to check what size of a pellet you are ordering as they make several pellet head diameters. As an example my BSA likes 4.52 or 4.53 while the group size opens up if I go to 4.50mm.

Yes, that's why I have so many open tins of pellets around here. Sure is hard keeping track of what likes what, even with a computer.

hi guys i have switched from gamo's hunter to h&n barracuda match, gamo's old hunter pellets use to be simply wonderful for small game hunting, with my walther talon at lease, however there new hunters don't get the job done.I am by no means a marksman but at 25 yds I get about 3/4 -1 inch groups with the old hunters, with the new hunters I'm lucky to get a 2 inch group.Now with the h&n pellets I've seen 1/2 inch groups at 25 yds off the bench, when hunting small game, when shot placement matters h&n suits me just fine.

If you notice with H&N, especially with Pyramyd in conjunction, you are given pellet weight, head diameter, length.

This is especially helpful in sorting out problem guns. I'm going thru such a scenario now, the gun has a borderline "loose" bore. All .22 cal pellets seem to measure .2165 or less in the majority of stuff I have tried, and its been alot. Pellets that I have measured to .2175 or better have shot PHENOMINALLY better fron this gun.

Translated to metric, that is around 5.53 mm. Of course, you can expect about 3% of variance in tolerance.

But notice....H&N (pyramyd) actually sells 2 types of 'Cuda......5.52 and 5.53
Likewise with H&N FTT's 5.5, 5.52, 5.53, 5.54 all the way up to 5.55mm. I don't normally buy more expensive pellets, but if they make this rifle group to my standards, I'll buy em up.

Generally BETTER overall quality with H&N. Sorting makes a difference in AG's, big difference.
They do the sorting work there, thats why you pay so much. But to get more trigger time, and less sorting time, you gotta pay to play......you'll pay one way or the other. Money or time

Of course there are exceptions.
