New 397 ?

Anybody handle one of the new synthetic-stocked 392/397s? Thinking of getting a 397 to go with my 392. There's still some wood ones on Ebay but Pyramyd/AGD jusy have the synthetic stocks. TIA

I haven't handled either but if you like your 392 why hesitate? Are they discontinuing the wood stocks or is PA just temporarily out? I go for the wood wherever it makes cense unless the styling is better on the plastic or weight is an issue. Good luck in your decision.

Wood stocks aren't even listed at PA so I think they're discontinued.

The only complaint i’ve Heard of so far on the synthetic stock is the stock screw being done shaped and not holding the stock tight.
The solution was getting a flathead screw and the problem was solved.

As to wood stock availability, I was told by crosman a couple of months ago there would be no more wood stocks made once the new synthetics came out.

This might change in the future depending on customer demand? Who knows!

Btw, i’ve Only seen 2 complaints about the sock screws, but that was out of 5 reviews on PA.

Wow, I can't believe they did away with the wooden stock.  I guess I grabbed one of the last ones 

This version doesn't look half bad though.  It would be nice if they would add an 11mm dovetail to the receiver...

I'm sure sales have dropped on the 39x series,  but changing to synthetics isn't the answer IMO. Any easy way to add optics would make it more appealing.

Having no more options for an American (assembled)-made all wood and metal pumper would be the end of an era, and bad for the airgun world.

I can't even find the synthetic version listed anywhere, and that includes the Crosman site.

Did they maybe release the synthetic version in an attempt to save them and just drop the model altogether when it just made things worse ?

I tell ya Crosman is just about dead to me, my guns love their affordable pellets and they've still got the 13xx platform and custom shop but beyond that they just keep digging their grave deeper year after year.

Just ordered a synthetic stocked 397 from Pyramyd.  Already have a Williams peep sight for it. We'll see how she shoots.

Looks like the synthetic has a longer pump arm compared to the wood. Maybe easier pumping?

Well there is a few Reviews from Customers out that bought the new synthetic already from PA, and they sound good. You can look it up there under PA.

Got it today. The 2nd pic is comparing the forearm with my 392. Already had a Williams peep sight so I put it on and it took all of 3 shots with CP 7.4s in my basement[raining out] to zero it.

I hate to say it, but as a 39x purist, that stock looks pretty good for plastic!  C'mon Crosman. (Long yawn) Throw us a bone here.  If you can make a monumental change to the 39x series as in no more wood, all plastic (another yawn) then you can darn sure throw us a bone here and make some in .20.  You already used all the miles of .20 barrel stock from the Sheridan deal?  Think a minute...or was it long ago sequestered and forgotten in your time-capsule of an inventory?

Jack, is it any easier to do 8 pumps with the longer forearm and is it any quieter to pump ? It does look pretty good.

Seems a bit easier to pump. Still kind of loud pumping.

crosman.com shows both the wood and the synthetic version

like the lines and the ergonomics of the synthetic version a lot. just dont like the monolithic all black look. rattle cans or hydro dip will fix that... Also maybe some stippling around/on the grip
