RWS Superpoint = terrible accuracy from my Stoeger X20

I don't know if there is something wrong with the pellet design, if pointed pellets are inherently inaccurate, or if this gun just doesn't like them. Luckily, I bought only 100 in the RWS sampler, but they are by far the least accurate pellet in the package through that gun.
I'll try a few through my lower powered guns; maybe that's where they excel, so that the pointed shape helps make up for lower velocities.
Edit: just to clarify what I mean by "terrible accuracy" at 25 yards, I was getting probably 1" 5-shot groups with the Meisterkugeln, and with Superpoints, I was getting probably 5" groups. I'd read that one needs to find the pellets one's gun likes, but I didn't know the difference could be so dramatic.

You're unlikely to get very good accuracy from any pointed pellet.
There are exceptions, but most people do best with domed pellets.

Pointed pellets are not inherently less accurate than other pellets, just as wadcutters or domes are not more accurate. I'd say your gun just does not like them. There has to be a level of consistency to the manufacture of the pellet. Plus there is also the variables in different gun barrels that may mean less accuracy. Poorly shaped or made pellets (whether dome, pointed or HP) will not give good accuracy. Pointed pellets will have a lower BC than domes, but a higher BC does guarantee more accuracy. Pointed pellets can shoot suprising well in certain guns. Look at the Predator Polymag pellet. It is a pointed pellet and many people get excellent results accuracy wise with it. If they don't get that little red tip set just right in the Predator pellet, it would go flying off to who knows where.

Out of all my pointed pellets, I find the H&N Spitzkugel to be the most accurate behind Polymags.
But today I did shoot a pretty good group using H&N Silver Point. Pretty good means a quarter at 10yards.
RWS Super Point never worked in any off my guns.

Every gun I have had has never been partial to pointed pellets. I'm not sure why but it is what it is. I will never buy pointed pellets personally. Rather have domes.

As a rule for the most part, in my opinion, most pointed pellets are not very accurate beyond 25 or so yards most of the time, especially in todays high velocity airguns. In theory, they fly faster and further, providing they don't start to tumble than other pellets of different design of the same weight. But in spite of their design, most of them are not really very aerodynamically efficient in normal shooting conditions. If their head/cone were absolutly perfect as well as their skirt and skirt flair I'm sure they would be far better. It takes very little, like wind attack angle, to cause them to change their flight pattern, flight path or to make them start to tumble. Again, just my opinion.
Anyhow, below is a link to an article that I wrote many years ago about "What pellet should I use". Although it has never been revised, most of the principles still apply and are sound. It should be good information to the new airgunner and answer many of his questions.

Im not a fan of the pointed pellets! The Superdomes shoot very well in my x10 but they suffer from low B.C. The JSB RS is the real winner in my rifle!
2 - 5 shot groups after a tune using my spring & seal.

I don't have the RWS Superpoints but have the Crosman Superpoints....and none of my "1000"fps air rifles like them. I get 2"+ groups with them at 10 yards. I've not tried them in the less powerful airguns....maybe the pointy pellets work better with the low powered airguns.

My 22 cal. AA Pro Sport shoots the RWS Super Points tighter than any other pellets I have tried. The Super Domes are a close 2nd. Most of the pellets I tried, did fairly well from this gun with only a few kinds performing poorly. But the Super Points were clearly the winner for my 30 yard testing.

My Stoeger X20 S in .22 shoots the Stoeger Magnum pellets in amazing groupings. I'd say .35" at 10 yards. The pellets are a pointed type.

I thought my stoeger hated the rws pellets too.
Then I did some testing and found that when I closed the breach some of the skirts would get mushed...so I chamffered the breach a tad so it would take them without crushing. Wouldn't ya know it the rws pellets are it's favorite line of pellets, the super h points and the super domes are at the top.
With the tune, new seal and tarantula spring, I am getting 17 fpe with those pellets.
