New HW30S owner

Last Friday I took delivery of a brand new HW30S from AOA. It's a deluxe in .177. I put 100 rounds through it on Saturday, just open sights. My back yard gives only up to 15 - 20 yards of range, so that's why I went with the HW30S.

The finish on this gun has blown me away. This is my first springer. So far the operation is so smooth. I really love this thing, I'm like Ralphie on Christmas morning. I bought this so I could plink when going to the range with my firearms was inconvenient. This thing is so much fun it may KEEP me from my firearms, and I don't have to clean it as often either!

EXCELLENT CHOICE! I liked my first Hw30 so much I bought a second. One to be scoped and another for peep sights. They're so much fun! By far my favorite rifle including powder burners. Welcome to the addiction. Uh I mean hobby.

Exactly what I did. Between the two, easily my most used AGs and we have a very large collection of high grade Has and AA springers, not to mention nice PCPs and vintage pumpers. Honestly, it wouldn't take much arm twisting to make me buy a third HW30s. Be nice to use one just with the factory open sights  or, hey, maybe another one with a red dot. That would be fun.

Just got done with another hour of plinking. Fine tuning the sights to get them just right. Then, wiping it all done with ballistol to make sure my sweaty hands don't hurt the finish.

I'm shooting crosman 7.9 match wadcutters. I hear that JSBs are best, but the crosmans are around $6 for 500, the JSB $13. At this time I'm just plinking at a 4 inch steel plate, no need to split playing cards.

Congrats! It'll take a hundred rounds or so to settle in. My R7 really likes 7.33 JSBs - agreed on the price difference, but coming from burning powder I had no problem paying a few extra bucks for time. JSB also makes a sampler, though 99% of our club's springers eat either the 7.33 or 8.44's, so it'd hard to go wrong from a tin of both when you are ready to split hairs.

I just checked, Krale is out of stock on the .177 cal.    But they do have the HW50S

Wrong!  Splitting playing cards is where it is at! .
That gun should be hitting teaspoons at 20 yards.
4 inch steel plate, hah.

Be good to yourself, get some AA 7.87 ammo. Mine will do one hole at 10 meters and one slightly larger hole at 20 yards. Great, fun shooting sweet heart of a gun.

If I could make out that spoon well enough at 15 yards I'm sure I'd have a chance let's just say I don't see so well. I don't want to scope it though, I like iron sights even if it's harder for me to use them.

Where do you guys buy your JSB pellets? I use PA but don't like paying shipping. All I have is walmarts, Dick's sporting goods, and a Cabelas which is an hour away.

Got to pay to play...sometimes you can find a shipping deal using Amazon, but typically I'll go in with another buddy to get the order over the minimum for shipping at PA. Or add on a BKL mount plus a pellet order. I've heard that Krale could be a place to find a deal on ammo, but I've never ordered pellets through them.

The question becomes - how much is your time/frustration worth for ammo that may not be as accurate, but readily available?

Caved in and Amazon primed the JSB 7.33. I have some guns I want to sell and then I'll order a crapload of JSBs from PA and make the shopping worth it. I've been reading other HW30S posts from this forum, and seems like I don't have to worry about any kind of leading from the Crosmans because the FPS is so low, right?

Also, don't have the manual in front of me, are the numbers in the sight adjustment wheels supposed to represent something, like MOA?

Beware that there have been several threads about Amazon's pellet shipping. Sometimes an Amazon purchase actually ships from PA (it should state such in the listing), which should be fine. If Amazon packs them, the tins will be packed loosely and you'll end up with dented tins or worse, a large box of loose pellets.

I believe the sight numbers are for reference only, not necessarily MOA.

I have two 30S'; one with a 2-7x32 Hawke scope and the other with the peep sight and I thoroughly enjoy 'em both.  Both will hit spinner spoons and spent shotgun shells at 25-30 yards with amazing regularity; especially, the scoped one.

FWIW, both of these kleine frauleins prefer the AA 7.33 pellet above all others.
