I really need it! I purchased my 4th parts gun this week and it should be here tomorrow. That's after receiving a syn 177 on Monday! So how did I justify it? Well, I really wanted a wood stock, but got tired of waiting for 177 wood. Well, I pulled the proverbial trigger last week, it was a little too soon. A wood 177 became available on Tuesday. Given a Mrod wood stock costs $100, I'm just upgrading to wood and get the rest of the gun for free.

Now one gun, with syn stock will be squirrelled away as a "true" parts gun. I have some mods I want to try, including a 25 cal conversion, but if a mess up, could waste a whole gun.

Sounded like a good justification to me

even if you mess it up. the 300 bar air tube alone is worth the cost of a parts gun to me.

now where did you find an Mrod for $100 or did i read it wrong for stock only

Yes, stock only, directly from crosman parts. The last time I got pricing it was $96 + $4 shipping, but that was a couple of years ago. The Mrod syn stock was around $40.

Took the leaking gun to work and took her apart. I took out the poppet and changed it as I did not like the way it looked after close examination. The removed poppet was totally redone in case I have another failure.

I'm hoping I did everything right this time !

Not to -UN-hijack this thread ...

... but my pump showed up yesterday. I tried it out enough to put 1000 psi in my newest Nova *Franklin* - my $100 Liberty. (cANT USE "bENJAMIN" for description)

this morning, it had 1000 psi in it. I will check again tomorrow, and am hoping that there is no slow leak for a n00b to have to chase down.

There may yet be bargains to be had! (Sheesh, like you guys need ENCOURAGEMENT!)

Just don't turn your next one of these into a bench-rest shooter - that would make me a 'Tabler-Enabler'!

It is my understanding that ATI is verifying all returned guns. My latest, a 177 syn, is holding pressure (2600psi) just fine. Groupings look good at 10yds, but the poi was much lower than it should be. Also, there might be a mag cycling issue. Two new 177 gauntlet mags were not working well. I haven't isolated it to the mags or the cocking action, but do remember a GTA member talking about a similar problem. Point is, outside of leaks, there might be other issues to work out. Most should be workable.

Grub, if you take the action out of the stock, according to ATI, you void the warranty.

When I got the Liberty and took it out of the stock, it was VERY tight. (I dont think it had ever been taken out before, only inserted and screwed in.) I had a lot of wiggling to do - the stock was pinching the reservoir tube just in front of the 'block'(?)

Once I got the action out of the tube, the plenum was loose - i tightened it by HAND.

If ATI had checked it, I think that there would have been wood on the paint, and that the plenum would not have been unscrewed. And there would have been a new, unflattened oring. (HEY! What size is THAT one?)

So, I assume that they have a checklist of inspection, but I'm not convinced that it includes 'eyes' on the action.

Having said that, there has been nothing required for me to do on any of my "ATI rescues", just aim and plink ... (... and sand and paint, and carve, and hang a bunch of "farkles" on 'em!)

I do believe that they have stood behind these well. It's a shame that they can't let people check for leaks under warranty. They might have saved a lot of money. But I understand taking a hard line about "peeking under the hood".

I gotta go, I have a Liberty to pressure check!

I put an order in for a wood liberty on Sep 4th. Ty said he has it on hand. i just called them and check since it's late. He told me we talked on the phone about not having any Liberty to ship. i never got the call on my phone or talked to him after the order. What a bummer, i think he might have called someone else...So i am short a wood liberty.

no Liberty as of right now, a lot of Freedoms though

Back to the drawing board again, she is leaking from the poppet pretty bad. I will try the poppet I just redid today and try spinning it on the seal to see if that works. and if that does not work, I will make a totally new poppet out of Delrin .. This gun is very finicky.

BTW: I think it is time for an intervention ... Their are WAY to many folks buying parts guns ;- )

From my discussions with Ty, he can see on his system when the returns are in-house. He said they go through some verification, but I have no idea how thorough that is. For example, he knew a couple a weeks ago that a 177 wood was in-house but hadn't been released for sale. When I checked back two weeks latter, there was only syn. On Monday, I send him an email letting him know I received it, and looked complete. In that note, I asked him to let me know when either a 177 or 22 wood became available. I was expecting to have to check back in a few weeks, but was told one was in hand. Tomorrow, it should be in mine.

With Ty, I think its worth following up every couple of weeks. I don't think he quires anything unless a request comes in.

Fuzzy, if it becomes a true parts gun if you get the chance I need a tracing of the semi v shaped cocking linkage with the measurements. A Liberty or Freedom either one will work it's the same linkage on both guns.

Yes, I would do that for you. I haven't dis-assembled any of the bolts yet, but the day will be coming. Either looking into the 177 cycling issue, or for certain when I sleeve the bolt for the 25 cal conversion.

Yeah Fuzz, I asked 3 weeks before I got notified of the last one available- I bought it on an “I-really-shouldn’t-but-ok” whim , otherwise follow ups would have been advisable.

It looks like there were a bunch of pending requests before I called. “Like hot cakes,yo!”

No complaints, though. If it was not actually HELD for me, I am going to pretend that it was!
