'specially the ones those backyard mechanics added a washing machine motor to.... 
Basically a crude version of the Freedom F8.... I know, I'm gonna get shot for that one...

Fred, sorry you didn't get the feedback you were looking for, must not be that many nomad users out there. You stated you sent it back on the 24th, have you heard anything back yet, I'm curious what broke, A brown out would efect the electric motor and controls but the compressor it self shouldn't have been hurt by low voltage,

Makes me wonder if a $2000 + compressor would survive a mid cycle brown out.
Would a quality surge protector of some sort prevented this?

If I'm thinking correctly, the Nomad I runs off a 12v DC supply. Sounds like the supply might have gotten cooked. Surge supressors only work against high voltage spikes. To protect against low voltage, you need a very expensive power conditioner.

That's what I was thinking and why I asked.
Back in my days of PC repair we used the UPS but I wasn't sure they would handle this amount of amperage.

isnt' the nomad fuse protected?...should be on the 120vac input
 and the 12vdc output.
fuse should have opened to protect the equipment.
lower operating voltage causes higher operating amperage.

and as far as a UPS is concerned, wait til you find out the cost of good one that can hold its own @ 15amps continous...not your average one you have your computer connected too...

Yep.... If I were to invest in one of these super whamadyn compressors at the cost of a small farm I would certainly take steps to protect it.

I have the fancy things that condition the power taken from high dollar computer centers, UPS's that keep the fridge going for an hour, UPS's for the computers and TV, and a pile of UPS's just in case one goes bad!

All free of course.

My computer UPS is 900 watts (8 amps), I think that is about half the size that would be needed? I have two other UPS's that I am not using currently that just need new batteries ((a 650 watt and a 700 watt) too weak).

The one on the fridge is a BBP-AR-2000-PSW-ONL-W2EBP with external batteries.
You'd be amazed what kind of stuff is left behind when some places close down.
 
Being the head of the demolition? Anything on site when I walk in is mine.

WOW....no, REALLY...thanks for all the very informative feed-back from all the NOMAD COMPRESSOR OWNERS...an American made, $750.00 less discount, compressor that had very GOOD reviews when I bought it....FOR ONE GUN originally....and of course, hindsight is ALWAYS better and EVERYONE started out with 100% complete knowledge of this sport.

I think that there are too many people that don't read well or read without understanding as the odor WASN'T FROM ANY air from the compressor....jeezzzz...WTFU.

I certainly will refrain from asking any more advice/info from the "experts"...I can get all I need from the bar flies down town and MUCH better jokes.

Hey Fred, I feel your pain here.  Lots of opinions and experiences, but little from real owners.  Please check out this information.  I put together a survey asking actual owners of compressors what their experiences have been.  I just checked out the section on the Nomads and found 6 responses (as of 7/8/2019).

Gendoc John, hows that hatsan Spark compressor doing? Still chugging along? How many hours do you have on it now?

These Sparks, Nomads, etc., I’ve always known this to be a gun fill only , and maybe Small tanks like the small guppy style tanks. Every time I hear of one of these going down it’s usually form someone trying to fill large tanks. For the life of me, why would anyone try and treat these mini compressors to act like a big boy compressor? Same with those Yong Heng types. Those are mainly for gun and small tanks only. The few I read about that have trouble free Yong Hengs, they follow the instructions and do gun and small tanks ONLY.
