Scope my Fwb124?

I’ve an Fwb124 that is a real joy to shoot, easy cocking and whoever owned it before me tweaked the trigger so that it has a very defined 1st stage and great 2nd stage.  It has the factory Beeman peep sight on it.  I have been able to shoot about 1 inch groups at 30 yards but at that distance I cannot see the target well.  Anything smaller than a 3 inch bullseye is not very defined for my aging eyes.

I love how light it is but I also want to be able to see what I’m trying to shoot so I’m thinking of putting a scope on it.  I have a few questions though:
1.  Do I need a special mount or would the bkl mounts I have work?  They have been working fine on my 97k but I’m not sure if the recoil difference between the two would change anything.

2. Suggestions on a very lightweight scope?  I think I’ll definitely be keeping the range under 30 yards with this and I want the lightest “good” scope I can find.  I’d also like to keep the price under $300.

3. Should I forget the scope and just practice more with the peep?  I’ve only been shooting it a short time, will I eventually get better with it or at least get used to a non magnified view?

Quick follow up, looking around I found a Hawke panorama 2x7 that’s 15oz and only about $100.  Good deal?

I think scoping a rifle is personal preference. When I was younger, I loved shooting open sights, it was my favorite for sure. As I’ve gotten older, my eyesight went from cheaters to full prescription bifocals and now I wear contacts usually. I scope all my Airguns except the target rifle I shoot ten meter targets with. I also have a nice FWB 127 that I have scoped and absolutely love it. No regrets scoping any of them but I do regret not having the vision I had in my 20s and 30s...

   There are many nice scopes for your purpose. It may depend on what magnification you would like. The Nikon 3-9x40 EFR is nice but no mildots. The Hawke airmax 4-12x40 is a very nice scope too, I prefer it to the Nikon. Others will chime in with great scope choices I’m sure.

I forgot to add that I have BKL mounts on several springers and some are more powerful than the 124. I have never had a problem with the BKLs moving on me.
  I also tend to like more magnification even on my lower energy springers. I have a 2-7 airmax on my R7 and it is very nice, I just prefer the option of 12 or even 16 X.

The Leupold 3-9x33EFR is probably the nicest lightwieght AO scope and can be found under $300.

Also look at Clearedge.  They make a scope almost as nice as the Leupold, and a bit cheaper.

The reason my FWB is scoped and left with iron sights ON is for duality use in case the scope goes bad.

I have the Burris brand on mine which I equate as the boys from Idaho instead of Oregon! Both USA and good.

I would NOT put a scope that isn't STRONG and rated for heavy recoil.  You can put any scope on a PCP but not so with springers.  Every springer from HW30 to HW97 or R1 will take a toll on any scope.  I prefer using my Elephant Gun scopes on my heavier springers with low power like Leu 1.5-5X 20mm.  Pretty much any VXIII Leupold can take elephant gun recoil, but the higher powers are avoided since the target is closer and bigger.

However, clear, wide view, low power lenses will give you precision out to beyond the definition of optical powering through magnification.  And the pellet can't do much beyond that limit of definition.

I like the 4-14X Compact on my FWB because 4X is really enough power but that 10X is my favorite varmint hunting power so I have to have it!

Have any of you used sightron scopes?  I’ve read a few reviews and they seem  pretty good. The clearings would be great if it had a mil dot type reticle.

I have owned several of them.  The RM is still available in gloss.  If I am right, they are made in the same plant as Weavers.  Only drawback is the range of MOA is less than that of the Leupold and Nikon Efr which is generous.   Also, the Clearidge also likes to be in optical center, which is tough if you have a lot of droop to take up, the eyebox gets more critical.  The gloss scope is sharp.

I have some BKL single screw mounts on my 124 and have never had them move in either direction when shooting it when tuned to 14 fpe and now 12 fpe. I prefer the BKLs over any other mount due to their self centering construction.
