New to me slayer

Finally shot a string over the chrony,  with my first ever cast slugs ,noe 358-152 ,they turned out very good for a rookie caster thanks to all the great advise and tips here on gta . I had trouble getting good reading on my chrony ,till I  backed off about 15 ft from the muzzle the slayer has quite a air blast ,the 1st complete string was 938-914-903-889-879 ,starting at 3400 psi ending at 2500, got a new discovery 4.5 x 18 vt-t scpoe today , will mount in the morning and head to the range

That's quite the declining string.  If interested, you should try a 3800 psi fill.  That should give a better bell curve.

I'll try a 3800 fill, one problem with that is I fill from a 88 cf scba bottle with a joe B. Fill assm. The gage on the slayer reads about 200 psi lower than the 2 in gage on the fill assembly,  I'm sure I should relie on the larger gage but it still worries me that I  might over fill the gun, what are y'alls thoughts on this. I  also have no idea what the tune is on this gun since I got it second hand

My gauge is only a 4000 psi gauge.  Gauges tend to read more accurately when reading at half to threequarters of their max range.  I always just use my larger fill gauge.  The Slayers gauge tends to agree with my fill gauge at anywhere between 3000 to 3400 psi.  Not so much at the higher and max fill ranges.  A 5000 psi gauge I think would be better.  I can't half read the gauge anyways without a magnifying glass so I usually don't look at the gun gauge.  I know based on my tune that I'm done with my bell curve after five shots and is time to refill, but also know I could still utilize the sixth shot if needed at longer ranges with a slight holdover.

You could also test your tune at 3600 psi.  You may only need to back off the HS a small amount then to get a bell curve.  You just have to shoot a string to know for sure.  With my HS rating, 3800 psi is best for a bell curve.  A lighter HS rating would change that.

Never fill a gun off a 1" gauge. They are the worst.
Use it for a reference only. Sometimes they are close or on but some straight out of the box are 500 psi off.  My biggest problem selling valves is dealing with the gauges.

Dang the bad luck ,loaded up headed to the local range ,pouring down rain ,I'll just have to settle for 35yrds in the backyard to site in new scope , really like the retical ,only drawback is the retical is a little too thin at low powerwhitch is 4.5  ,concerned about not being able see see it in low light, but can crank it up to 6 if meed be,will mostly be hunting from inclosed stand anyway.

Congrats on the slayer. Just so you know, don’t expect stellar groups past 50y with that tune. Someone has fiddled with the gun, tune will not stack bullets at distance.

I also have the DonnyFL ronnin that I use by itself and yes there is a poi change from stock ldc, seems to be a little more accurate with DonnyFL. Either way, mine is minute of squirrel head @200 yards

Nappyman , that string was with unsized hand cast slugs I have sense recived my sizing tools from noe , have not had a chance to shoot a new string yet ,I  did make it to the range last week, I  wasn't impressed with the accuracy of my cast slugs at 100 yrds ,they were still unsized at that time ,I  had some nsa 95gr .358 slugs that came with the rifle and they grouped fairly well at 100 , I ve been researching how to adjust the power settings and will try that before wasteing ammo at the range again, also need to adjust the trigger but can't get the screws to move ,I ruined the only .o35 allen wrench i have sohave to order another one , the trigger just takes too long to brake for me , so that can be part of the accuracy issue , still shoots better than my modded bulldog though

Did you order several different sizes from NOE? if so, try one size smaller. It should increase fps and accuracy.


You will find that some bullets prefer larger, some smaller. Size isn't written in stone.


I often order smaller than needed and polish the sizers up .0001 at a time until I find the right size for a given bullet.

I ordered ..357 and .358 , I sized 25 slugs to 358 and lubed with 10w rc shock oil, range is closed on wed so will try tmrw

Some where in all the many post I've read on the slayer was details on tuning ,now I  can't find it, I've looked on AAA 's web site nothing there ,the manual online dosnt address tuning. If I  remember right the power adjustment screw controls valve dwell time ,and the HS controls bell curve , am I  right ?

Yes, that's correct.  I wouldn't adjust the dwell more than an 1/8th turn at a time.  Clockwise is more power/dwell.

Ronald, the reason for the oine eighth at a time,is dwell is fairly critical. While it does indeed increase power, it ofcourse does so by increasing the time the valve is open, or Dwell. A little goes a long way. A touch too much and you get very little gain, but it puts a lot more air down the bore. Really killing shot count.


In fact you can end up with air still pumping down the barrel when elvis has left the building. LOL 


Once you have reached the max, it is a good idea to back it off just slightly.


The combo can give a nice bell curve, or the Korean Cliff. Whichever you prefer.

Thanks for the tips Micheal ,I'm waiting on a new .035 hex head wrench,ordered two different types,hoping for one that will loosen the trigger set screws, I  ruined the only one I had by heating it up and putting it in the screw to heat up the loctite ,I  bought that .035 to adjust a jewell trigger on a PB 20 yrs ago only used it two times , the new ones are short and alot stouter looking so should work

Do you have a way to grind+cool at the same time? I draw the temper of of my  small allen wrench often adjusting the casting spur plate locking set screw. When it gets soft,it rounds off and won't work any longer. I just grind and dip in water often. Using it up, but has lasted for tow years doing this. At least once a month. LOL
