Love the hill Marauder barrel band-POI shift hopefully in the past

After recently acquiring the Marauder I was getting a little annoyed at the POI being so easily shifted with the stock barrel band. I ordered the hill Marauder barrel band and can't say enough good.

The precise machining of the band and the nice tight interior oring fit on the shroud are outstanding. I think those shift issues are over. As I was installing I noticed my shroud had been loose. Oooops! lol. You gotta check those minor things. Anyway a quick snugging of the shroud and install of the band resulted in a nice solid setup.

Now all I have to do is sight in again because I know it's gotta be done one more time! . Great product though and such a simple fix.

I always thought that the theory behind their design was to have the barrel free floating, so it is more accurate.  In practice does not seem so.  I am interested in other people’s experience too.

I really like mine too. Tim has awesome products. I plan on putting a little mark on my shroud and band so when I take it off I know exactly where to set it back up. I do the same with my scopes and it has been working really good. It's nice to take it apart and not have to waste a whole lot of time getting it set back up. As for the improved accuracy I'm not so sure but the consistent accuracy I can definitely say yes it has improved that aspect.

Look back in this forum a bit. Another member told me to squeeze an oring in between the stock band. Working great.  I don't remember who it was but he told me the exact o'ring to you use.

I have both the Hill band on the .25 and the O-ring mod on the .22.  They both work good.  The Hill band allows for flashlight and other attachments like a bipod.

yep nice little added feature. I took out the Marauder a few days after installing the new band and it was dead on without any shift so I'm happy about that.

That's a huge plus for me too, knowing that when I take it back out to shoot its going to be hitting exactly where its supposed to be. And I like to have an option to put a bipod or flashlight on it too.

That positioning of the picatinny on the band was clever for sure. Leaves the sling mount available  for your sling if you want that bipod.Just wondering about extra pressure being put on the band at that point though.Its such a precise fit that i don't think it would result in any movement .

If the barrel can move relative to the sights/scope, then it will ALWAYS be a problem.
Same on any gun.

I thought it out too before I started using it for the bipod and I highly doubt it will or would cause any issues as long as those two little screws remain tight. I have been giving it a quick check before I put the bipod on it. Most recently I've been working on shooting my marauder off hand.

yeah definitely, i noticed that. But what I'm saying in the rail being under the band may put unwanted pressure on the band. Maybe it might be too much pressure? I haven't tried mounting a bipod to it but you're probably right. It's such a tight fit maybe there wouldn't be any possible issue.

Is this barrel band issue only on certain rifles?
I have a Marauder F&T in .177 and the barrel band has daylight all around the barrel, the barrel band does not contact the barrel.

It's just simply a personal preference.  The Hill band is a solid piece that mounts to the air tube just like the OEM.  There is no issues with adding accessories to it being it's mounted to the air tube.  It also has an O-ring that supports the shroud/barrel, but still allows for the slightest barrel/shroud movement when firing, which is good.  For me, it takes away the worry over the shroud getting bumped and shifting the POI.  I just prefer the assurance of that.  It is not mandatory to have if not having POI issues.  I also use a Danco #30 from HD on my other rifle.  It too supports the shroud/barrel, but should be lubed with silicon to allow for the slightest movement when firing.  Again just for reassurance sakes on POI shift.  I haven't seen any issues with accuracy with either one.

+1 what Keith said. I wrapped my armada shroud with some of the fabric camouflage tape as well. I wish someone would come up with some sort of support system for that rifle shroud as well.

Have you give a thought of using one of these types of bbl bands,
I have one on my QB-79 long plenum tube/shroud combo and it works very well.

One of those might work for the armada since it slides into the fore end grip. It will be an extra tight fit though and there isn't much of a gap between the shroud and tube hmmmm. Thanks Don

Yes,  Both look too thick in the center to work on a Marauder.  It's only a couple of business cards thick between the two, and that's without any CF wrap.  Good find though!

What is the c/c of the shroud/plenum tube of Marauder?

I am using the bottom clamp for my Gauntlet, it just fits right behind the drop block screws,
had to change out the socket head to round screw heads to fit inside the Gauntlets stock rails.

I made a Poly bushing to fit over the bbl and inside the shroud, this clamp will be clamped over the shroud,
with the Poly bushing inside, right underneath to clamp, there is 6- .062" holes drill length way thru the Poly bushing,
to allow the air from the front air stripper to exit the rear of the shroud.

I use the bottom one in my first post and form fitted it to a 1/2" diameter rod, I needed it to fit.

The air tube is the same or similar in capacity to yours, 215cc.  IDK what the shroud would be.


The subject of utilizing the shroud as part of the air stripper in a Marauder has been covered by the pros a long time ago.  The consensus was that there was no benefit to drilling holes in the rear of the shroud for air to escape, so I never tried it.  I do know my Slayer utilizes the shroud like that.  It has big holes in the rear of the shroud that blows out air coming from the LDC design.
