Hill airgun Kit for your Umarex Gauntlet

I have owned  my 177 Gauntlet for a while and my biggest gripe has been the hard cocking effort. I purchased the Hill airgun kit on Ebay and it sure smoothed out the cocking and by using both shims supplied it increased the fps a about 10 fps, or almost stock. I just did not want to tear the gun apart and polish the hammer and tube. The gun is stock except for a DonnyFl Sumo and shroud. One day I will do more mods , but for now I'm a happy and content airgunner. BTW, it was a easy mod. I didn't even degass the gun. I did reinstall the screw that secures the valve while installing the kit.

Did that Sumo make it super quiet?

Reviving this thread because I have a question.  I have a .22 Gauntlet and I’m thinking about this kit.  Am I to understand that installing this kit will allow for higher shot count, but at a lower velocity than stock?  And then you can increase the velocity by adding the provided shims?  Will the shims merely bring the velocity back to stock?  Or will it increase velocity further?  Or can that only be achieved by combining the kit with an increase to the regulator pressure?  Hope all that makes sense.

I would go with the jsar kit personally. Should extend your shot count at the same fps.

Ok, so the Hill kit would reduce velocity?  Also, how difficult is the JSAR kit to install?

You'll have to pull the valve and burnish the new poppet. Not hard to do.

Bark123, I installed the Hill kit because the JSAR kit wasn't yet available when I did mine. It does increase your shot count by preventing waste air from hammer bounce. Adding the shims increases velocity up to the point that you get hammer bounce again. The system by itself did not decrease muzzle velocity. With all that being said, the JSAR kit is adjustable so it is really the way to go now if you want to experiment. Even the JSAR kit doesn't take care of the two biggies to performance gains; opening your barrel and breech ports, and turning up your regulator. Just doing those two things and adding a Hill kit, my factory .22 Gauntlet went from 19fpe to 30fpe and my shot count went from 50@19fpe to 58@30fpe. I could do better with the JSAR kit probably but at this point it isn't worth it to me. It probably is to you.
