Walther LGU Varmint owners-Your thoughts and effective range for small game?

I came across some raves about the accuracy of these guns, mostly target shooters though. But given it's a "varmint" model, I was wondering who's pesting/hunting with them as well, and what you have found to be the max effective range.

Is your gun as accurate as I'm hearing? Best pellet in yours? Have you found any good trigger upgrades?

I'm an admirer of the Walther LGU/LGV guns (nearly bought one). I didn't buy one due to the weight, and that was my only hesitation since I have trouble off-hand shooting that much gun weight. Yes, the plastic trigger is not like the Rekord, but all the posts that I have read state that it is still a fantastic gun (can't adj the trigger, though).

At this level of gun value, the Walther, Air Arms, and Weihrauch are all great guns.

My LGU Varmint is extremely accurate and not pellet picky. I have taken groundhogs and squirrels in the 25 to 30 yard range (I can't shoot any further in my yard). It is shooting at 16 FPE. I polished the trigger internals and lubed with Moly paste which made for a very nice trigger. I used JSB 18.13's to make it past the first round of paintball competition at the GTA Fun Soot last year. It will be for sale at the GTA Fun Shoot later this week. If you're interested in buying it, PM me. I don't shoot it much anymore since going over to the Darkside.

Varmint LGU version weight is only 3120 g, which is approximately the same as hw 50s.
The wooden version of LGU weights 4300 g which is over 1kg more than plastic version of stock. So if you can handle hw50s, than you could handle lgu varmint easily 

LGU varmint is great out of the box so it  doesnt need a tuning like some of the top airguns with twangy springs.

According to Pyramid Air, the LGU Varmint Rifle is 9.4 lbs before adding a scope; at AirGun Depot the LGV is 9.25 lbs before adding a scope; so, these numbers are several pounds heavier than the 6.8 lb HW50. 

Nevertheless, for the person who can handle such heft, it's no big deal. For me with lower back issues, 9+ lbs plus a scope is a problem.  Drats! But life is, whatever it is!!!!

I love my LGV, and it is heavy, but i use a triggerstick, could this be something for you to carry with you? If you put a sling on your Walther can you carry it on your shoulder or doesn´t it work with your back issue ?

I've temporarily solved the issue by spending more money... ...adding a HW95. It's 7.5lbs + scope weight, which makes it nearly 2 lbs lighter than the Walther LGV. I'm getting better at off-hand but am in no danger of impressing anyone for accuracy. Now, give me a rest or a tripod, and I can shoot well enough. However, my goal is to kill the pests that ate into my porch and soffit on the back of my house. So, thinning the varmint herd is all I'm after. If I were out hunting, I'd probably take my 5.5 lb Gamo Swarm and live with it being a less accurate gun.

Of course, carrying a tripod, with a 11 lb gun strapped to my back might get me ready for hauling around a PCP with all its gear.
