Airgun Moulds

Hi Bob,

Putting this topic here as I know you have collaborated quiet a bit on mould designs.

Looking for HP moulds in 22, 25 (standard Condor) and 357 cal.

I checked the NOE Moulds webpage and either they are out of stock or don't suit airguns.

Links to any one using moulds, maybe similar HP designs like the NSA slugs? The NSAs are pricey for one to plink around besides hunting - what one usually does with an airgun, hence looking for options.

Just like with pellets, what works with your gun will require trying several.... NOE should be topping up their inventory soon.... They and Arsenal are about the only game in town when it comes to .22 and .25 cal, other than a few by Lyman & RCBS.... For the .35 cal, Accurate has lots of moulds, as well as they others.... There is a database here....

The twist numbers for each bullet are the calculated minimum twist, so if, for instance it says 12", then don't go slower or you could have trouble....

Morning Bob hope ya had a good Easter... I got new pics of the grand kids...

I finally downloaded the data base and took a look at it... I did some rough calc using Chairgun and got  near your figure for actual B.C. rather than the advertised .06 B.C. of the .217 30g BBT it is near your figure...Knew the advertised B.C. was low... got .078...roughly because it was from trajectory and have to figure from center of groups...

I still think the recommended twist is way faster than needed... at 80 yards at about 675 fps no sins of instability out of my Buccaneer... I am pretty sure it is 19 twist...

Working on accuracy out of the AT long .22 (currently ~.5"-.6" at 35 yards 1.75"-2" at 80) but was able to see that it was stable at at 80 yards ~795 fps... twist is said to be 17.7...

Both at about 2000 ft at 65*f also did try them at about 1000ft and 30*f earlier this year and no instability at 70-80 ish yards out of the Gamo urban at 620 fps...

point is 14.5 and 15 twist seem overkill... Benchrest guys have used 16.5, 17 and even 18 twist for the longer 40g rounds with success...often in the old days according to the guys I talked to...Heck I think some of the Shul 150s came with 19 twist(most I think were 17 twist iirc)...

I do believe it is better to be overspun than underspun tho...in general...

but...the less twist the less darty in wind and the more tolerant of casting imperfections...

well anyways there are not a lot of 14/15 twist .217 barrels... and I do think at sea level @30*f (cold dense air) 1:16 twist would be just fine...

Barrels from Shilen, Border, Lilja, Broughton, Mueller, and Hart are commonly found. All of these barrels are capable of winning. However, they may vary considerably from manufacturer to manufacturer in their rate of rifling twist, the shape of their rifling lands, and even the number of lands. Standard rifling twist is 1 turn in 16 inches. Some barrels have twists as slow as 1 turn in 18 inches. While this difference may not seem like much, the slower twist won’t stabilize some brands of ammunition, especially in cooler climates. On the other hand, shooters in hot climates claim that with ammo it favors, a barrel with a slow twist will outshoot a faster twist barrel. Anyways just worried that some may read the twist needed for the 30g BBT .22 according to the data base and not get the mold...

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your response. I did look up NOE, unfortunately most of their moulds are out of stock - including your designs.

Not sure if they will be reintroducing them again.

Looking for the ones in HP.

Well I would be in for a 3rd 30g BBT .22 if it has both cavities hollow pointed... But it would have to drop .220/nose .222 rear band or just a bit larger... my current 220/222 drops a bit small...

Could you also post the link to the 357 please that would fit in the Benjamin Bulldog?

Also which airguns would these 22 and 25 links that you have posted suit?

Tons of .357 bullets out there.... just a matter of looking for the weight and length you want.... Posting an inquiry in the Big Bore or Boolit Gates for advice would be a good idea, because I don't have a Bulldog....

I was just on the NOE website also. Looking fo a 22cal and 25cal multi cavity mold to make some slugs.
