Any love for the Webley Alecto Ultra aka Zoraki HP-01

I had one, mainly on an " Academic Interest" .



Accuracy with the OEM barrel was not too good,



so I rebarreled it with a slightly longer 0.20" cal. L-W blank, I used all the available space in the case, and just short enough to not make pumping an issue, LOL!







Got tired of pumping and sold it because it didn't do anything my re-barrelled Steyr wouldn't do:



They are good guns, and at IWA, Zoraki told me they are working on some improvements.

Worth it to keep an eye out.

Ed, that sounds encouraging... especially about the upgraded trigger. I would love to see what they've done.

The Alecto is the only pistol I have that I can't improve the trigger. The reason is that the trigger and link (link engages the sear) are anchored to the frame where they don't get the same expansion (from the pressure build) as the drop sear and hammer get. What would normally be stable with a small engagement becomes unsafe when you pump the gun... takes some getting used to.

I don't know where you got that info. And your post makes it sound like you don't believe me, LOL!

My questions to the Zoraki rep we're more technical and mainly about performance of the projected version, I didn't ask either at IWA if they would continue building the old model.
Frankly, I am not too interested in the gun itself, for the price you can get a Bandit kit and easily be in any of the energy levels the Alecto was making.
At 300 fps, I can get 64 regulated shots so the idea of a SSP sort of becomes a moot point for plinking.
At 700 fps, yield is around 25 regulated shots.
Pumping up back the Bandit takes less than 30 strokes.

As interesting as the idea is from the technical standpoint, I don't see a general interest in it.

I really like shooting my HP-01, when I feel up to the task of pumping it up that is. This thing is god awful at three strokes without pinching oneself, let alone for those people who can go four pumps. It's the main reason I don't shoot it very often.

I shoot mine all the time at 3 pumps. Never is a big deal. Technique I guess.

No, it does get kind of annoying after 30 shots. The palm of my hand starts to get sore from the rear sight. It’s not my long shooting session gun.

Yeah, a 12 ft. lb. SSP would suit me just right! For now though, I'm happy "despatching" (as the Brit's would say) rats with my Alecto at 7ft. lbs. And the accuracy and excellent trigger are fun as well! Amazingly quiet as well with a TKO.

I see your point as it being a tech/academic interest, but I'm very happy that someone did take that interest and create something of it.

Pumping does get tiring after a while, especially when you are bench-shooting it.

You know, it seems odd the Alecto has only 1 slot for optics, lol!

That one slot works great for a Red Dot though (see my pic in reply #5).

Some people file a second slot for scopes. I don't like the idea of doing that to a gun that is so expensive and parts-scarce though.

Rick, I also think that the one slot on the top rail is odd. They have full picatinny for the accessary rail... 

For sure this is not everyone's cup of tea, but for those interested, cutting addition slots is really easy.
Get a 7/32" straight, fine-cut round file, measure, mark-off, and mask for a file guide...





The 7/32" (.219) is just a little over the picatinny dimension (.206).
Easy peezy, I can have the slot cut with a file before I would have the fixturing and zeros on the milling machine. And..
using the rear set of rings as the cocking handle makes pumping much, much easier. But I still have one that is unmolested in the box

The one I have in the box was purchased for spare parts when I heard they were being discontinued. Haven't had to use that contingency yet, and I won't if the parts are available. But so far, they have been very reliable...

That's what I've done with all of my Baikals (bought spares). That way I can do mods without fear of losing the ability to make them original in case I sell them. I won't touch anything without spares. I just didn't think to order the Alecto part, but I'm not planning to do that scope mod. It was Rick67 that brought it up.

Chambers is great though. wish their shipping was a bit faster. John Knibbs Intl. is only about 7-8 days, but they don;t have nearly the stuff in stock that Chambers has.

I ended up spending $61 for my HW35 rebuild today so there was really no more $$ for a spare Alecto part. Not this week anyway.
