Gauntlet changes POA after a fill?

Little frustrated with this. Its a regulated gun after all

If I shoot the gun down to around 1,800 psi, then fill it to 3,000psi the point of impact rises 1/2 MOA... at 50 feet!!!

I am thinking that since I have the longer tank and barrel band on the end of it, the tank might be moving, / swelling moving the barrel changing the POA.

I am going to try it without the barrel band, but had to go cook dinner, and ran out of daylight.

Later tonight I am going to open up the regulator again and ease it off just a little. It's at around 1,380 right now. Going to check the Bellville washers to see if there in the right orientation.

Any other thoughts or ideas?

Slight shifts of POI will never fully go away with the Gauntlet/QB design.  Whether it's after a fill, at different ends of the fill range, accidentally bumping the barrel/tank, slight shifts of POI will likely be experienced somewhere in a shot string.   The .25 Gauntlet barrel band is close to the best barrel stabilizing method found on these guns, but it too can be susceptible to shifting POI. 

Hajimoto and others have developed methods of managing this to the best it can be managed.  In addition to these methods handling your Gauntlet with care will be your best friend in maintaining steady POI.

I suppose your right. I was handling the gun carefully, avoided picking up by the barrel, left it sitting horizontal on the bag. Only thing I did was fill the bottle and that alone moved the POI

Yup ... the shortfall of the design than MANY have tried to mitigate will limited success

Do you have your bottle screwed tight to the block? Or did you back it off so the gauge lines up?

Its backed off a turn or so. It is the aftermarket longer 'bigger' bottle.

Im not familiar with the aftermarket bottles. But if they have grub screws on the bonnet like the ninja bottle. I prefer to tighten the bottle to the block. Then back the bottle off the bonnet to make everything line up. Then tighten the grub screws back up. I feel it squares up better. Might be worth a try to see if it improves your change in poi with the change in pressure.

Oh the bottle is fitted with a ninja regulator with a gold collar that can be rotated.

Last night I opened up the regulator, re-arranged the Belville washers put it back together and it dropped its output slightly to around 1,350. Re-installed it and filled it … again

I plan to check it this afternoon without the barrel band and 'after' the reg adjustment.

I'd suggest tightening the reg to the block and rotating the collar to line your gauge then. Less chance for movement that way.

I just wanted to update this for anyone in the future

I did as RDB suggested and tightened the bottle till it 'bottomed out' then adjusted the ring to center the gauge and fill port.

Put the barrel band back on and shot a bunch of shots getting it zeroed down to about 1,500 psi, that's a lot of rounds with the bigger tank.

Anyhow I then filled it back up to 3,000 psi without changing anything and the POI barely even moved! So that 'fixes' that

Thanks for the info, I just got my Gauntlet 22 cal, Did you find a good reg set point at what ever psi?

I have a couple of different 3000 psi tanks, in 13/17/23 ci volumes, and several Ninja regs I can set to whatever psi,
do you like the longer tanks with the use of the bbl band etc?

So far I like this lazer,
it loves CMHP pellets, nickle sized groups (5 shot) at 40 yds, after getting the scope dialed in,
I have DN > dirt napped, 6 starlings and 1 magpie and 3 HS, with 15 shots @ 40 yds, on the it's first outing. 

I am hoping that the bbl will break in and I can get better groups at 40 yds,
those HS are a hard target to put down etc.

Your thoughts or suggestions.........

I like the barrel band on the longer bottle now that it doesent move around so much. Best part is you don't have to mod the bottle shroud at all so that is nice.

I ended up at right around 1,400psi output from the ninja regulator. Ended up with .08 worth of washers to get there. Also checked the bellville stack and that needed sorted out. I also got Hajimoto's hammer spring adjustment block, and the 'high travel' spacer and adjusted the velocity to around 820fps with the heavy pellets. I get close to 100 rounds on one fill. Only downside is I need alot more pellets

Just shy of 28 ft lbs! that should stop them!

One of the first things I did when I got the gauntlet was removed the barrel and gave it a good cleaning, with goo gone at first then finishing up JSB Bore Paste and a bore mop ran that back and forth about 20 times, finally cleaned that out with some ballistol patches, then some dry patches. There was a good deal of reddish brown colored stuff in the stock barrel. Some sort of rust inhibitor I suppose.

My Gauntlet absolutly does not like CPHP's you can almost hear it gagging on them. By far the best pellets, at leas for my gun have been the heavier 18 grain pellets. JSB Jumbo heavys, and it really, reakkt likes Air Arms Diabolo field heays 18gr. If you can find them that is. Also H&N 'sniper magnum' did fairly well, again a heavier pellet.

It is consistantly hitting dime sized groups at around 40 yards!

What is the CI> cubic inch, of that longer tank, I have read most of your posts and can't seem to find that tank info.

What is the total overall length of the tank to the top of the neck?

I believe it is 360cc, allegedly 70% larger than the bottle the gun comes with. I dont have the actual dimensions I will have to look it up when I get home.

I checked the reg on my Gauntlet today, it is running at 1180 psi/OEM,
will check some fps of various pellet weights, before doing any mods.

Now, I have to figure out which psi I want to set it at, along with what sized tank.........
