A Crosman 2240 that I Frankensteined to a long-barreled .177 bottle gun with a QB tank block:


Very light, accurate, and quiet shooting JSB 8.4gr at about 14fpe.

From nearly all the pictures shown...seems the universal choice is to run the tanks in-line with the length of the rifle.  Could be reversed or forward tanks,but it certainly seems the more popular choice (and that dual tube one from Bob is also in-line and balanced...just each off to the side a little).


Majority doesn't have to be "right"...but this is a pretty overwhelming majority.



OPINION:

The one thing these do BETTER than PCP's is shoot a lot of shots.

I have PCP's, so power isn't an issue...can always make a rifle running at 3000psi shoot faster than one running at 1500psi (or whatever output you pick).. Managed to get HPA's shoot as fast as the PCP's with enough mods....but if I spend the same time/effort on the PCP's, can also boosted them up (just not the shot count).

So basically...it's shot count.


So I set a goal of 200 12 foot pound shots for both of the Qb's shown above.  Took me awhile, but they both do.  The unpopular item was that I used 850psi air to do it rather than higher pressure...just found it easier (doesn't mean "better"...just less work/easy cocking) to get to 200 shots when I had 2150psi/215cc's  of air to work with than 1800psi/215cc'sof air to work with.


(OK..am going to claim "better" in one respect. The rifles have been in use for years with very little trouble with leaking/parts breakage/velocity changes. MIGHT be that never seeing any more stress than 850PsI has something to do with that.)

OK, this is driving me nuts... I just used every search term I can think of and read through MANY pages of results. I have searched "Bottled Guns", "Bottle Guns", "Bottle Gun", "Rear Bottle", "Tankers".
 There were several guns shown that the tanks were on the REAR of the tube and used as the stock.
 I remember a senior member (Motorhead?) commenting on how the rear adapters were now available when early on he had to make his...

That's because it's basically a paintball marker feature. Try Tippman rear tank adapter.

There is two ways too do this.

1. use a small pressure line from the bottle/regulator fitting to the main reservoir/plenum.

2. Take the tube, valve and hammer assembly and turn it 180 degrees so the hammer will go towards you instead of forward and mount the bottle where the fill plugg were before.
This will need a new trigger action as the sear will need to be in front of the valve. The breech may also need some new mounting points.

Very cool!
I did remember a 2240 like this with the breech mounted on stilts!

Will you make you own semi auto action for you next project? If so be sure to make a thread about it!

In this case because the barrel is so thin it's not so bad.

For the semi-auto I might use a paintball marker trigger group and grip, with the bottle mounted vertically just ahead of it for that sweet TEC-9 look:
