Does My 392 Need a 397 to Keep Her Comapny ?

Well my 392 is waiting on a few accessories and I should receive a few of them tomorrow, but what would a 397 offer that a 392 does not have ?
Is the extra velocity a big enough plus for me to buy another gun ? Is the 392 lacking in some areas where a 397 would be better ?
Yes, the 397 is faster shooting and will be flatter, the 177 pellets weigh less so I could carry more, but ? If I ran out of .22 pellets I could scrounge some 177 ... ya but I have a huge stock pile of .22 pellets that will last many, many years and I'm buying another XX tins this week, I will not run out in my lifetime !!
My thought is that this gun is a truck / food / survival gun, not intended as a "target shooting can gun". I'm setting this gun up as a basic ... Oh My--- there is a ? I can harvest him for dinner kind of gun !!
I will be testing pellets to see which ones perform in this gun and will then have my sight settings done accordingly !! I know this gun is not a power house, but has the power at closer ranges 25-35 yds to take care of business (10fpe+ with a heavy pellet, 8.5fpe ish with CPHP's, POI ranges) !! As it stands now I'm good for Squirrel, Rabbit, Pigeon and any edible game in that size range. At 15-20 yards a head shot at coon and possum would be adequate for me to start cooking a stew !!
One of the biggest things about the 39X is the size of the gun, it is small, easy to store and it is easy to repair, no need for pumps, tanks or ? A few cheap piston seals that will probably last for many, many years, and I'm down the road ! This gun is about as basic as basic does, and that is a very, very good thing !
What are you guys thoughts ?

I’m of the mind if you can afford it then why not get it. Can always trade or sell it if you don’t like it.

Lol, my thoughts are if you have a 392, you don”t “need” anything else. Best survival gun ever made to me because of the all brass where it counts construction equals no rust and not much up keep.
Now that’s out of the way we can settle down to the facts..... what’s need got to do with it?
Lol, I think either cal. you get calls for the other sooner or later.
I’ve had my 392 for almost 3 years now and have been thinking of getting a 397 to go with it from day one!
I’m waiting to get a closer look at the new synthetic stock version coming out too.

Nah, my friend, what you NEED is a Sheridan AND a 397.
I have to find my 1962 Sheridan I had as a kid AND my Benjamin 22 cal round ball spring tube fed pump, (made for round balls) that still has the original tag on it and has never been shot !
I need to find those two guns, they are put away safe, I just can't find them ;- )

My thought is to find an older 397P, 347, 317, C series or C9, so you can experience a different feel and trigger instead of getting an identical gun in a different caliber. It's a slippery slope, though, and can quickly snowball into a gun rack full of pumpers when you only "need" one.
Have fun!

Then you will crave a vintage 342 or 392P. I kid you not.

I have just started to hit my semi local pawn shops for an 392 (I decided I need more poop than what a 397 can offer). They are closed Monday, so Tuesday I will go scouting and give them info to call me ...... they get all kinds of junk and lots of guns of different types because of the scum that live in the area and need to sell stuff to support their habit ! (I Live in Kalifornia).
I'm looking now really for a 392 that is cheap, under $75, I would like $50 ;- ), if needed to be fixed up, I can do that. I will refinish the metal if need be (Cerakote), and do a major overhaul if needed. The stock I will camo or re-stain. I will add an adjustable piston rod and do valve mods after I learn what works and what does not. The sights on the gun determine what I add or don't add. I really want to keep THIS gun very, very ho-mum looking, I may just keep the iron sights. I'm actually looking for a newer model just because of the removable valve, and I like the looks of the new stock very much.
If I find an older Sheridan, that is totally different, I will do my best to restore her to her original form. If I found an old corn cob pump Benjamin, that would be awesome and that I would do my best to totally restore her.
What will this gun be used for (if it is a 392) ?, probably just a ugly brow beaten looking back woods type gun, that looks like cr@p, that stays in the garage or ?, That gets taken out to areas that firearms are not allowed, but yet can put the peddle to the metal for hunting or pest control at short to medium ranges (45yrds max) if you know what I mean ! A gun that most folks have seen, many folks know about, yet a gun that is on a good bit higher than store bought performance level !

Lol, 392’s seem to be like 880’s.... one calls for another one.
I want to send my 392 in for steroid treatment before too long.
This one is drop dead accurate with jsb 16 gr. and also gamo 15.3 gr. pointed magnums, so is a good candidate for steroiding.
I’ll pick up another stock one to go with it hopefully sometime this summer.
