Beeman Model 2070

    This is a gun that got a good review at Hard Air Magazine. The review is a two part one. I believe the velocity claims are pretty well on the money. The trigger was stiff, hut the tester was able to clean out the trigger area with pipe cleaners, and that lowered the pull down to reasonable levels. Seems there was some hardened grease or something in there. It's a springer with velocities around 800 fps, so not a magnum, or even close. Cabela's has the deal on this one. Amazon is listing it at about $91.00.

    Many of Cabela's prices on air rifles are a bit high. I checked and they would ship to me in Hawaii for free.

    I used to have a Beeman low end takedown springer in .177. They still sell a version of it. That air rifle was a throw away. They used studs (apparently) at the forward stock mounts with nuts, instead of screws like everyone else. But, the nuts, instead of being hexs, were round. No way to remove them. This 2070 uses screws, so one can remove the stock for access.

I like the fact this springer is an 800 fps gun,  that means you will not need extra heavy pellets to avoid going supersonic.  I don't need it but it has me thinking as it should be easier to cock and quieter.  Good find

From the description of size, weight (~5.5lbs), cocking effort ("easy to cock for a 12 year old") and pellet velocity (~830 fps alloy, ~620fps lead), and "stiff" trigger, this looks a LOT like a copy of the Norica Titan youth rifle to me.

Nothing against the smaller youth versions as I have a Hatsan Alpha (basically a youth version Edge) which is a really fun shooter even for adults.

I have the slightly larger Noricas (Dragon, Atlantic, Spider) and really like these rifles even with the very STIFF direct sear trigger design. A youth version of these rifles (like the Hatsan Alpha series) should be a really smooth shooter.

Has anyone gone inside the Marksman 2070 and one of the low end Noricas? How do they compare? Close or totally different?

I have about 300 shots thru mine and it's settled down nicely, for $69 (Cabela's) it's a nice rifle, the polymer stock is pretty substantial, bluing was good. Fit finish was a little bit better than standard Chinese stuff. It is also accurate, and won't wear your arm out cocking it. I use it in my yard and basement a lot, a little loud but not bad. It also has some nice features, I like the auto safety, the front sight hood is metal and can be shot accurately with the iron sites. The scope is actually pretty good also. I was expecting a youth rifle in the 500 fps range, but this thing has a pretty good impact with 7.9g. pellets, more-or less a medium power gun. Kind of a neat air gun, something different with the logo on the side of the stock.

    Sounds decent. I think it's running about 780-800 fps depending on the pellet. For those of us who are not great break barrel shooters (myself included) one with a somewhat reduced velocity, might be a very good thing.

The other thing is the gun is fairly lightweight I think about 5-6 LBS. so you can shoot a few shots off-hand, before your arm gets fatigued. Compared to some of my other 7- 8 lb. springers it's a huge difference. I have a few other lighter weight springers as well and they get shot a lot more. Usually these $70 guns you can expect a high level of cheapness, this one by no means feels like a German gun, but it's a few levels higher than the Chinese B series guns. Creature comforts like auto safety, fiber sights, a rubber butt pad, iron sights (a lot of guns have gone away from ), and the ability to de-cock are nice options. I just use an open palm hold, and squeeze the trigger for springer technique and it works well on this one.

Thanks for the info.  I was thinking about a light springers for my nephews after my brother was asking me if he should get a cheap air rifle for them. 

So you don't have a Chrono or any shot strings for us?  I am very skeptical about 800fps or anything close to it with lead pellets.  That's with ultra-light non-lead pellets 5-6gr.  It's probably shooting around 700fps with 7.9gr which is not bad, and the price is pretty decent for what you described and the features.  You could still take squirrel inside 20yds with head shots, and Starlings/HOSP's farther out.

These muzzle energy numbers of around 10 FPE are inline  with many multi-pump air rifles ,  I think Gamo and Crosman are missing out on a  wide-open market by not offering a line of medium power ( 10-12 fpe) rifles in both break-barrel and PCP  And it's not like they don't already make such rifles, as they are already selling them in the UK.

That's because 14-22fpe Springers outsell the 8-12fpe ones in the US by a large margin.  The US mentality is still predominantly "the more energy/fps the better".  I agree the Beeman 2070 has filled a niche in the market.  Its power is between the popular HW30 and D34 springers.  Now if they can add a functional LDC or shroud to the 2070 for quiet backyard shooting and pesting, it would be a great success.   

If Diana exported a German 11-12fpe Springer to the US that is more accurate and more quiet than the (14-15fpe) 34 out of the box, I would jump on it especially if they priced it a few bucks below the 34.  I love my 13-fpe Diana 34 .20 with 15" barrel.  It's more quiet than my D36 .177 (same as 34), stupid accurate, and almost non-hold sensitive.  An 11fpe 34 or new springer model would be even better and I could still take a squirrel with it at 25yds and beyond.

It arrived, broken. It's box was put in a much larger box, with only 3 little air pillows. Barrel pierced the Styrofoam protector, broke the front sight off. (plastic). Called Bass Pro, had to whine a bit, they are sending new one, I will send this back. Had to whine because they wanted this one back first, then they would send replacement, noooo.

Well, Like the review, I could not get the rear sight low enough. The scope foe me is usless, I need an AO for garage shooting. This afternoon I took the front sight off, cut a piece of credit card that matched the sight base, Dilled holes foe the screws, put it back on (the screws grabbed enough, I hope) and it now shoots where I want it to. Next I am going to take a file to open the rear so my old eyes get some more daylight on both sides of the fat front sight. That red hunk of plastic does not gather any light.

    So, how did the Marksman 2070 end up working out for you then?  Accuracy decent? How bad was the trigger?

The credit card fix did not work (and the little screw popped out, someplace in the garage (have a better chance of winning the lottery than finding it). Put a different scope on it, seems to like Crosman competition wadcutter  (the milk carton ones) ok. I am not knowlegeavle, but I do not think there is any leade, you can see the grooves in the breach, so any larger head pellet is a chore to insert. Trigger is like freeing a stuck bolt pull, pull ..there it goes. Noisy as heck. The recoil broke the screw that holds the curved piece at the rear of the dovetail, gotta call Beman, see about that.
All in all, I am not fond of it.
The Winchester 1100s I got at Walmart for $45 is much nicer, more accurate for me.
