Questions for Beeman P-17 owners

Numerous post today about the P-17 have be interested in owning one. One post mentioned stalwart,a member here, as being a go to guy for modding one. I plan to contact him next week. For now I have a few questions that maybe some of you owners can answer.
What real numberse for fps can be expected with an out of the box P-17, using 7-8 grain ammo?
Has the light weight lead free ammo been tried and how accurate is it?
I read about the bearing trigger mod. What are some others that are a must have?
Stalwart's web site is loaded with things that can be done. Sounds like this Beeman is able to be modded as much as the Crosman 13xx-2240 pistols are.
I would not want to sink a large sum into a 30$ pistol, just a few necessary improvements to enhance its already fine performance.
Thanks for any input, I look forward to being a new owner soon.

I jusst got one (for the 4th time) today .... shooting 8.5g pellets at 384 fps for a whopping 2.78 FPE ... at 6 yards it is more accurate than i am.
edit to ad .. CPHP at 7.9g are shootingt 383 fps (2.57 fpe) .. the H&N 8.5's fit tighter so that is likely why they shoot as fast if not ever so slightly faster

Buy one and shoot it 100 to 500 times.
That will answer a lot of questions.
They are excellent without any modifications.
Buy a 2nd one if you still want to do modifications.
Most of us own 2.
I have one with stock open sights plus another with a 4x rifle scope that I shoot using "Earl's thumb to nose weld".
Just some advice from an old airgun nut.
My stock guns:
JSB 7.33 gr = 405 fps
RWS Basic 7.0 gr = 400 fps This is what both of my P-17s are sighted in for.
Sig 5.25 gr = 462 fps

i just got my first a few days ago.
and so far the only "must do" mods ive found are,
stretching the trigger spring (ever so SLIGHTLY!!!!) to lower trigger pull weight,
and backing out the grub screw in the trigger to take out the tiny bit of creep (go slow and try a quarter turn at a time at first)
my trigger is so sweet now, light and crisp, simply perfect.
im definitely going to go get another one or 2 lol
i will chrono the pellets i have tomorrow

I went in the other direction and reduced the compression to make it easier to cock.
It shoots great, and with the correct pellets performed great.

As I said somewhere else in this forum, this little airgun has a major inconvenience : even if you're a (very) bad handgun shooter, it can make you believe you're a good one, at least for a while
. Otherwise, I can't tell anything against it.
